Do you mean the flashing on the roof around where the chimney pipe is? That sounds like a problem with your roof, not the chimney itself.
Yeah, our flashing on our roof became damaged in one spot, so we just recently noticed some leaking too. Homeowner's will cover it, since the wear is probably weather related (unless you have an old roof). Our cost to repair it is around $300, so too low to submit to our insurance company.
Oooooh THANK YOU! We're def gonna look into that. It seems no one claims homeowner's ins here yet everyone has it. I'm sooo on this! Thank you!
@Vitsippa: Is the problem from your roof flashing, like MissAsB suggested? Because that should be a pretty easy fix. Good luck!
We're not sure yet, but we should know by this week. It's been raining all weekend but thankfully the leak is barely there. The drops were coming straight from the outside "pipe"? of the chimney and rolling off of it. I'm really hoping it's a quick and inexpensive fix. We only found 2 listed chimney/roofing ppl in our town and we're crossing our fingers an older, more expereinced one will be available for the job. Most businesses close down completely for the whole month of July up until the middle of August!
Thanks again ladies. You responses kept me from freaking out while waiting to hear from an expert.

We've been thanking our lucky stars since we moved-in for managing to find such a lovely house in a dream location. Just when we thought it was too good to be true, the chimney starts leaking! It's actually not inside the chimney, but the area right beside it (near the chimney pipe). The chimney itself is oldskool, even for when they 1st built the place. The original owner was a guy that worked for the company that built all the homes and so he added a lot of his own personal touches. The old-style fireplace is one of them. It kinda looks like a stove. It's cast iron and the chimeny pipe is completely open and visible. I really thought it was quite charming and didn't want to replace it but now I'm worried about leak and potential mold!
Fi's gonna try to find a chimney person to check it out on Monday but I was hoping to hear from someone that's dealt with this before. Was it an easy fix? How much did it all cost?
