- Wedding: May 2014
I am very excited to announce that we are having the wedding band made, after going through hundreds of bands, and only one that looked so beautiful next to my ring. The stores wouldn’t let me take photos, something about store policy, but the wedding band matched my e-ring to a tee. There was several problems with the ring though, the diamonds were I-2, very cloudy and speckled with little black dots. When I talk to the sales woman about upgrading the diamonds to SI-1 the price jumped $500, it went up again when I told her my ring size was a 7. So a band I thought was really pretty was starting to become too much. Totaling out to be a $2200 band, wasn’t really in my budget and I couldn’t make it into my budget. So I walked away.
A few days later I was browsing Diamond Bistro, and stumbled upon this beautiful platinum wedding band, that met almost all my criteria:
18k white gold
Well I had to wait for Mr. Duck to get home from work to show him, and by the time he got home someone had already bought it. So I saved the photos and we decided to custom make the band after the pictures off Diamond Bistro, with a few modifications. My mom gave me a ring many years ago a very beautiful blue and white sapphire cluster ring in yellow gold. I called one of the local jewelry stores and set an appointment.
From the first moment of me showing the designer, Jamie the pictures we started chit chatting, poor SO felt left out, but I was totally mesmerized as Jamie measured all aspects of my ring and did a drawing. Within a week he was calling us to show us the auto-cad and boy oh boy was I surprised at what a software could do. This is when the first problem came up, I found out in order to accommodate my blue sapphires the band would be 3mm wide, and swallow my ering whole. So we swapped out the blue sapphires to yellow diamonds in the same size. Which was great since my ering has yellow gold accents, really ties everything together.
So far my experience with having a ring custom designed has been a wonderful! I highly recommend it to any Bee. It wasn’t as expensive as I thought it would be. Our total for the ring before having the hand-engraving added is $1,300, which isn’t bad in my eyes.
I’ll post more photos when I go Wednesday to finalize the rest of the details, but in the mean time please bring on the ring porn. 🙂
