    I voted ask to fix both, because if you have a decent jeweler it can’t hurt to ask!

    perlerose:  In that case, I would have your SO ask about those things, and if the jeweler can guarantee they’ll be able to fix one or both and give it back to him in time for when he plans to propose, have them fix it now.

    If not, maybe hold off for now, and once you get your ring see how you feel about it. Your jeweler should be fine fixing it now versus a month or two from now. If you still want something fixed, it’ll suck to part with your ring (trust me I’ve been there!), but you can get a stand-in in the mean time, and it’s only for a little while.

    Get it fixed ASAP. It shouldn’t take that long to fix. I would be surprised if he wouldn’t be able to fix it within a week. That would drive me crazy and I’m sure it will be something you think about every time you look at it.
