I've been harboring this from you all for quite awhile now...I feel guilty for not being more honest in the beginning. I have been deceitful and dishonest. At times, you girls have sought my opinion and I have blantantly lied to you.
I am so very sorry. I hope that you can accept my apology when you find that that in reality......
I hate your candy buffets.
I hate the prettiest candy buffet there is! I hate them all because I just hate the concept! I am an adult and I don't want a gumball at your reception. I don't even want a gumball in a box for after your reception! Or a jelly bean for that matter! Candy buffets remind me of the candy machines in clusters in the mall. And, no, I don't like those either!
So, I hope you can find the humor in this thread and not tear me a new one. I am just wondering---does anyone else share this sentiment? I know, you're probably too afraid to raise your hand...But I encourage you, my fellow candy buffet hater, speak up! You are not alone! I know you're out there...statistically you must be!
And if you're mad at me for posting this, I will let you hate something of mine in return. How about my...buffet dinner? Or maybe my wedding cake design (the cake that I only I love and everyone else tells me is ugly)? Or my "shrimp" colored BM dresses? Haterific enough for you? Go ahead, I allow you to hate on it all! It can be a hate-trade off! If you want to post something like "well that's mean and hurtful, VM", just post this instead "your ugly wedding cake can kiss my beehind!!!" It'll make you feel better!
I love candy buffets, but i totally see the humor in what your saying!
Oh VirginiaMarie, you are one of my faves! You are a freaking laugh riot and your posts crack me the hell up.I don't feel strongly one way or the other about candy buffets, but I'm glad you do!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
LOL. I don't hate candy buffets (maybe if all they've got is silly kid stuff like gumballs and jelly beans and gummy worms, but I think a spread of truffles and other gourmet candies would be pretty kickass, though I'm not doing one), but man I have definitely held my tongue on A LOT of wedding concepts/ideas/aspects that I found ridiculously self-indulgent/pretentious/cliché/childish/ugly/horrifying/in very poor taste. Either I'm totally an out-in-left-field asshole or you aren't alone. Your candy buffet is someone else's ______. And I'm sure there is someone to object to just about anything in my wedding, but they haven't come out and said it either. :P
Hahaha! This cracked me up! I don't hate candy buffets, personally, but I always think about what they must look like once they've been dived into and everything is half-eaten and messy. I feel like they are pretty when untouched ... but that would defeat the purpose.
HAHAHA amazing!
I hate them too! I hate even more when all the candy has to match the colors of the wedding!
LOL! You honesty is appreciated and funny too!
I have no idea why I posted this in "emotional", I guess when I was typing it I was getting really worked up about it. HAHA sorry.
I've just been in hiding for so long now. It feels wonderful to have walked out of that closet. Thanks for not disowning me.
hahaha that is hilarious!!!!! I feel the exact same way! O girl you are too funny!
-Haha and I love the term "giggle reflex"
LOL I love candy buffets! But thats ok everyone likes different things.. Totally funny tho! I can see your point.. I just personally like them instead of something stupid I don't know what to do with! At least I will just eat the candy:)
I hate color coordinated candy buffets. I think they tend to ignore deliciousness and focus only on the look they are going for. I like to think of my wedding food as "FI and Twista's favorite things," within reason. So my candy buffet (I say "my" because FI finds it unnecessary and/or ridiculous) will follow that same rule. We're going to have Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs (I stock piled two economy sized bags at Easter), Peanut M&Ms, Gummi Bears, Peppermints, Reese's Pieces, Snickers, Jolly Ranchers and Werther's Original, for the 80-year-old woman in me.
@Twista--hahah ok, ok, I LOVE werther's Original! Particularly the chocolate covered ones!
This is SO funny. I am not doing a candy buffet, but kinda started wanting one primarily because of the prettiness. I don't even LIKE candy. Unless it's chocolate...or gum.
I think we're having a brownie bar...and a smores bar outside by the fireplace. Hate on me, go ahead!
Haha, you girls are funny. Here is my ugly wedding cake! But mine will be without the nest (that's particularly horrific), and the "branches" will be gold and more knobby, and branch like! HAHA all my BMs think it's ugly and even my baker tried to convince me to change it. Still, I stand strong. I think with a few changes, this cake can be beautiful. And hey, if I'm wrong---whatever! It's just cake. (I know for sure it'll taste amazing!)
I thought I was the only one that thought the idea for a candy anything was wierd!
It's another way to spend money you don't need to spend, let it go, enjoy the evening and have a great time. I was at a wedding recently and I never even saw the candy.
However............, I'm thinking about surprising my daughter and having pizza delivered around 10:30 just to put something in everyone's stomach. Our dinner is at 7 and the band starts at 8 and goes through midnight. Thoughts?
I'm not having a candy buffet because I know most people don't LOVE candy as much as I do! I LOVE IT. Sweet, pretty, colorful candy. YUM. I wish I'd been to a wedding that had a candy buffet because I would have eaten almost the whole thing myself!
FI doesn't like most candy. He only really likes milk chocolate. So, he and I don't see eye to eye on the sweets department.
So I totally get what you're saying! Most people don't go crazy for candy.
funny... i dont have any sentiment on candy buffet because i had never seen one in person. i know i wont so it at my wedding.
i love your post virginia, you are so funny!
Love your cake, we are going to have 3 tiers and 2 huge sheet cakes for cutting. Much cheaper!
@Mamadee, omg I think a late night pizza sounds AMAZING! I would love that. Are you getting enough for everyone?! how fun.
EDIT: We are doing the sheet cake thing too! Our caterer does three other desserts, so we are serving those desserts and boxing the wedding cake to go home as the favor.
Uh....the cake? Uh....hmmmm....was it made by a pro? Exactly like that except for gold branches? Uh.....hmmm.....
Um . . . no offense @VirginiaMarie . . . I was looking for something uglier than that. When I saw the pic, I kept scrolling down because I was like, that is way too cute to be the ugly cake.
Yeah, I've always thought they were pretty pointless.
And your cake isn't as horrific as you made it out to be, although it's definitely not getting bookmarked with the hundreds of pretty cakes that inspire me. :P
@SMYLEY--hahahaha that's everyone's reaction! Well, I refuse to use fondant, so the butter cream will have to do...hopefully my baker has a more steady hand than whoever the heck made this particular cake that I found on google though!!!! I have to say, I LOVE the little double beaded edging though. Granted, I could put that on any cake.
Pizza sounds great! We're actually having them bring in a hot dog stand and snow cone maker towards the end , but ours is at the beach so it kinda fits.
Just kidding about the cake,VM. With some tweaking it will be lovely!
Also, what type of frosting is that?? I can't tell if it's very bad fondany or very smooth butter cream.
ETA: nevermind. Buttercream it is. Good call.
I think the nearly black, poor excuse for branches in that particular picture throws people off. Plus the nest is weird. It would make me think the bride is pregnant.
Ever hear about how when a bear finds a whale carcass, it'll eat until it's stuffed and then just roll around in the leftovers? That is what I want to do when I see a candy buffet.
@Vonnegirl, HHAHAHAHAHA what a great image you put in my head. I'm so glad you posted, because I know that many guests love to _____ (insert appropriate yet possibly vulgar word here) the candy buffet.
Candy Buffet was my FI's big request - it will mostly be gourmet candy though - which totally adds to the cost, but he is a candy fanatic! I think that no one is every to old to enjoy a little candy now and again (mmmm - gourmet jelly beans, and truffles). I dunno - I will take a candy buffet over most wedding favours out there any day ...
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Yep, I hate them too. Well, hate is a strong word, but dislike. :) Have you ever tried scraping jelly bellys and m&m's off the dance floor? How about the carpet? ugh. Talk about a pain in the a$$!
I love you for being so bold as to be honest ;)
