- Wedding: July 2012
I have not posted before, but when I finished my card box I thought I should share it with everyone because I rely on this website for so many ideas. I found a card box very similar to mine on Etsy for $45 or something crazy. All it had were the boxes, pre cut (which was the hardest part for me) and glued together. The buyer still had to buy paint and paint a few coats. So with coupons to JoAnn Fabrics in hand, I went out looking to make my own. The total cost was about $17.
-Paper Mache Round Box Set (I used the 14” and the 12” only): $19.99 – 50% off coupon = 9.99
Mine was from JoAnn Fabrics, but this is it
-Acrylic Paint: $1.50 x2= $3
-Paint brush: $1
-Ribbon (3 inches thick): $3
-Broach: Free (Ordered from exclusivelyweddings.com – had a coupon code for another order so it was essentially free)
-Elmer’s Glue to keep unwanted hands from inside: Free because who doesn’t have glue at home somewhere
All I did was cut the card slot in the top box, cut the bottom out of the top box, cut the top of the bottom box, painted two coats, glued it all together and assembled the ribbon and broach. All in all, it probably took me 2 hours total to finish, split up over multiple days (that does not include time surfing the internet trying to decide what kind of card box to make!). It was actually my future hubby’s idea to glue more ribbon around the card slot to hide my terrible cutting. What do you think? I hope this provides inspiration for your wedding!
