wandering_gypsy:  Is it a new dog? A rescue dog? I know 2 of my dogs were like that and it took awhile for them to gain confidence to be out on their own.

wandering_gypsy:  I can relate so commenting to follow! My Pomeranian I’ve had since a puppy and is now 8 waits for me and if I don’t come out she scurries back to the door and whines. its like she’s unsure if I’m going to leave her. She also goes everywhere in the house with me, I can’t shower without her in the bathroom. I think it’s separation anxiety.

My only suggestion would be to leave him outside by himself and just watch him through a window or something where he cant see you. He will eventually have to go bad enough that he will go, and then celebrate like he just found a million dollars in the yard. He will eventually realize that he gets treats and praise when he goes potty by himself. It probably wont be a quick thing, and may take some patience, but if it was me that would be what id do.

wandering_gypsy:  Im sure! I would be the same way. Lol. But usually letting them figure out the right thing on their own and then praising the heck out of them works better than trying to force it! When you force it they feel like theyre doing something wrong, ans it discourages them. Positive reinforcement has always worked best for me. Lol. Your situation is special since heis deaf, I can only imagine how much he relies on you. So I would start with maybe just 5 minutes out by himself, and then 10 minutes, and sort of ease him into it. He will eventually be confident enough outside by himself to go right out and potty. And when you get to the point that you can leave him out for 30 minutes by himself, he will potty, because he will need to go bad! Lol.
