I totally agree about the sleeves.  I think you should maybe add some structure under the bodice and wear a crinoline underneath to give it a more modern ballgown shape.  Post pictures when you’ve got a first round of alterations done.

i think it is a very very beautiful dress! i have to agree the sleeves are umm…i like how you put it. very 90’s.

The top is very beautiful with the sweetheart neckline…can she do away with the sleves all together and go strapless? i think it would look very pretty.

Or if you want sleeves i would maybe suggest doing away with those sleeves and adding just shoulder straps like these….

ps. i think with some alterations you wouldnt need to buy another dress, i think its very pretty. i have to agree with mcnetn3 on the crinoline

Crinoline or Petticoat– you wear it under the skirt of your dress to give it more volume.  It usually usues a stiff kind of net fabric to provide the body.
