I don’t know if this is normal, but I went to DB to pick up my dress tonight (which is perfect btw and I love it) but it came in what looked like a plastic drycleaning bag and then they made me BUY the garment bag or they were going to give it to me in plastic!?
Really? Is this normal? Anyone?

@MsGinkgo: I believe so. At least for DB Mine came the same way :-/

I would find that upsetting. They should warn you ahead of time so you can purchase a garment bag to take it home in.

Yes, they make you buy a $10 garment bag that is not worth it. It’s literally paper. I bought the bag and the zipper broke the next day.

@mstellah: I know RIGHT!!!
I guess maybe if I went to a higher end store it wouldn’t have happened, but I went to davids bridal because it was in my price range.
Oh well I guess… Usually things like this I saw oh well I’ll know for next time, BUT I hope that it’s only a one time deal and there won’t ever be an next time. LOL

@MsGinkgo: I got my dress on ebay, & it came in a shoe box wrapped in a trash bag lmao.
I then kept it hanging on the closet door open to the air for 3 months & it was fine.
I think DB is effed up for not giving you the damn garment bag for free, but if it makes you feel better, they aren’t all that necessary.

@MsGinkgo: Alfred Angelo did the same thing, they brought the dress out and were like would you like a garment bag for ten dollars? Uh yea how else am I getting this home??

I went to a bridal boutique, and had to buy the garment bag for 20 bucks, nice and sturdy though.

Yep that is what DB does.
I went to a local bridal store and they just wrapped my dress in plastic, did not even offer a bridal bag, had to go buy one elsewhere.

@MsGinkgo: That happened to me as well (I went over the boarder to get my dress though, it was ~$300 cheaper there). Purchased the white garment bag for $10 and it worked just great for me – and I dragged it back and forth over the North Atlantic Ocean. It was actually great walking through Pearson with it, pretty much every single person that saw me with it got this HUGE grin on their face. 🙂

I’ve heard that’s what David’s Bridal does.
I went to a smaller salon and they had already repackaged my dress into a cloth garment bag (with their logo on it and such) for free. It had a couple business cards in a clear pocket, too.
I guess it’s one of those things people should call and ask beforehand.

I just assumed that it would come in a garment bag, didn’t need to be fancy. I guess I was kind of shocked that I SAW it in the little plastic dry cleaning bag with a knot tied at the bottom. The dress is perfect and I love it, I bought the garment bag seeing as it has to hang in the closet that FH and I share for another almost 8 months, but I was just surprised! It’s from the White by Vera Wang collection which also added a little to my surprise

Wow, that’s unbelievable! I bought my dress at a private boutique and was given a garment bag. It’s nothing fancy but I defintely did not pay extra for it!

@MsGinkgo: Meh. I did DB and got a plastic bag. I kept the dress in the same bag for the 13 months before the wedding. Afterwards, I had it dry-cleaned, and its in the same plastic dry cleaning bag 2 years later…

@MsGinkgo: My garment bag was free!
