I think diamond white is a soft shade of white. Also antique white ... there's so many shades of white. Who knew?
Mine is a soft shade of white ... not ivory though. Could they give you a swatch?
My dress is ivory but it's a very light ivory. I got my veil from a different shop and we couldn't decide between diamond white and ivory as it which looked best. We ended up going with ivory only because I was matching it to a blusher I had gotten at another store and the tulle was dead on with both until you looked at it bunched together. The ivory matched better. You will really be able to notice your diamond white dress is not white ones you hold it up to something that is a true white.
Diamond white, ivory, or any other shade of white varies from brand to brand. I suggest that you go back to the bridal salon and ask to see a dress or swatch sample in that shade.
I have an Alfred Angelo dress in Diamond White and it looks ivory up close, but in pictures and from far away (like from the pews) it looks white. However, it doesn't wash out my skin the way stark white does.
i actually didn't order a maggie sottero gown because it only came in diamond white and i wanted ivory. i would think that maggie's dresses are the same color palette across the board so diamond white would be the same: and it's definitely white! if you're looking for anything "darker" than white, etc. i wouldn't go w/ the diamond white. just my .02. :)
I had a Maggie Sottero dress that was Diamond White and I bought it in Canada (so can't even claim its diff from states to canada). Mine was definitely more white than ivory. I tried on an ivory dress and it did NOT look good against my skin, the Diamond white was pretty different. I would say that its not as stark white as a truly white dress, but its definitely not ivory. Here are a couple pictures, one indoors and one under a tent (so more natural lighting):
For Sottero and Midgely Dresses (another maggie collection) there are three colours - white, diamond white and ivory!
Diamond white is a softer white but not as "yellow" as ivory!
Check for your maggie dress online it will tell you what colours it comes in!
Supposedly diamond white is a softer white. But by @mskalinin's photos, it looks pretty white white to me. It depends brand by brand of course. Now that I think of it, my best friend wore a diamond white Maggie dress, and it looked pretty white to me. I'll see if I can dig up a picture for you... :)
I wouldn't worry about it being stark white at all. The Maggie diamond white dresses that I tried on were the *perfect* shade of white. Not too stark and blinding and not to yellowy/dingy. I think that you made an excellent choice!! No worries :)
I ordered a Maggie dress in white/ white lace & I'm hoping it turns out to be the right colors. The sample dress was diamond white/ivory lace & it was very pretty. But I want my dress to be all white. I'm just hoping now it doesn't look cheap or anything. I think the diamond white/ivory lace combo might have given the dress more dimension. I guess I'll find out in Dec. when it comes in. I'm glad I'm not the only one confused.
Oh yes, Maggie Sottero's diamond white versus white debate. DW is definitely the stark white but it's definitely not ivory either. I have to be honest that I found DW to be too close to white. It was for that reason that I contacted the shop a week after I put the order in and changed my order to light gold.
It's in between ivory and white white! It looks really nice in person! Surely they can get you a swatch? It's not really either color...I think it's pretty though. =]
I didn't know there were so many different shades of white until I started dress shopping.
It would probably be most helpful to get a swatch of your fabric, since the color naming can vary by designer. I was told by an associate in one of the dress shops that diamond white usually has cool (blue) undertones, while white is warmer. Again though, that might vary be designer. Good luck!
My Maggie is Diamond White. The first time I had the sample on, it looked VERY white to me. Then they held a WHITE white dress up to the one I had on, and that's when you can really tell a difference. Mine was suddenly not nearly as white!
Trust me, you don't want a dress that's completely white. Diamond white is better because it's off white and looks more natural. A complete white dres looks almost florescent and can almost glow in the dark. You don't want to glow in the dark, do you?
Well, diamond white is definitely not ivory. That sales lady misinformed you. But do not worry that it's stark white, because it's not. It's a litte off-white, but not as yellow as ivroy, like pps said. You should go back and ask for a swatch for the color. Find a Maggie dress that is ivory and compare.
My dress color is diamond white and it's definitely not ivory or pure white or I'd know. (Somehow I am very sensitive to the differences of the 3 shades.)
if you really like ivory, why not show the sales lady a piece of ivory fabric and ask them to make the dress with the color?
here is my ivory to show you
Maggie dresses also come in ivory... so diamond white is not MS's name for ivory. Have you checked a swatch yet?
I got an ivory dress, but tried on a diamond white dress and it looked really nice...Some ivory's can tend to be more "yellowy"....and diamond white doesn't have that...its a rich white, if that even makes sense! It's a beautiful white, but they should be able to show you a swatch, or at least a different dress in that colour :)
I have a maggie sottero dress and it is in diamond white. It is not stark white. It's not ivory either... but it does lean towards the ivory side. I actually noticed this when I was trying to find shoes. In the picture below, I compared my dress to white shoes and to ivory shoes. I picked the ivory pair.
Hope this helps.

I purchased my dress already its in the process of being made. I really wanted it to be ivory and the sales lady said that maggie sottero dresses that are ivory are called diamond white. Well I've seen a few pictures of diamond white dresses and they all look white to me.
Does anyone have any experience with this colour? I've read a post on here already about it but it was all mixed responses.
My wedding is in the fall and I dont want to wear a stark white dress.
Please chime in! :)
