Just got the call from the bridal salon - my dress (ordered in June) has arrived!!! I can't wait to try it on for the first time!

I'm wearing the Melissa Sweet Lia. I've seen other threads about this dress before, so I'm hoping that some of you bees are fellow Lia brides! How did you bustle this gorgeous gown??

Yay!  Congrats on your dress coming in!!  I just heard today that mine came in as well :-)  ...but I won't get to go see her until I'm back home in Boston over the holidays.  Sadness.  I don't have much advice on the bustling, but I thought I would just share in the happiness of dresses arriving :-)

Yeah, a french bustle looks really pretty.  Won't the alterations lady help with this though? They can probably show you both ways and you pick the way you like.

@ Marylee - thanks so much for those pix! I love how that French bustle looks too - it makes me think of a yummy meringue cookie! Do you know if you're going to have cups sewn in instead of a strapless bra? That's what I'm leaning towards...

A friend of mine is doing my alterations for me - she's a fashion designer (she made her own wedding dress from scratch and it was GORGEOUS), and I'm sure she'll do a perfect job, but I wanted to have some bustle ideas to bring in to her!

You're welcome! Might as well share the research... I am going with a strapless bra - just because it's the one I usually wear and it's comfortable! But I think having cups sewn in is a good idea.  I've seen lots of pictures where the cups have been sewn in and it looks natural.

You're so lucky to have a friend do the alterations! You can get it perfect!  When I tried my dress on, it was a bit loose around the bum, so my seamstress is going to take apart the dress at the skirt in order to get that hip-hugging look in the back.  That way, the ruching and the pleats on the top are all preserved!

Work with your seamstress to select the kind of bustle you want.  There are several ways to bustle your gown.  Have your seamstress show pin your dress to show you what each option will look like and then you choose the one you like the best.
