That is really annoying especially since you didn’t notice it until months later! I would definitely say something to the cleaners, but there is no guarantee that you will even be able to prove that it was there fault, unfortunately, even though you know that is the only possible way it could have shrunk. On the other hand, it doesn’t look bad with your shoes showing. I think you still look great in the dress!

@KingsDaughter:  Good for you! Hopefully you won’t have to freak out on them and they will just be upfront about it and help you!

@KingsDaughter:  Unfortuntely, so many garments do seem to shrink at the dry cleaner’s. Sometimes linings will shrink in a different proportion to the outer part of a garment, and that can create problems, too.

I honestly don’t know if you have any legal recourse in terms of receiving compensation for damages, but, in a worst case scenario, even if you cannot, you may still be able to wear your dress again with some modificiations. It won’t be the same, obviously, but maybe you can find some amazing, contrasting fabric (perhaps lace or ruffles) to add beneath the bottom of the dress, or perhaps you eventually can make a short dress out of it and wear it for other special occasions in the future.

I’ve been married for four-and-a-half years, and I’ve still not had my dress cleaned and preserved, because of several factors (at first it was a lack of time, then it was not knowing whom to trust or where to go, and now, along with both of those factors, it’s an issue of not wanting to spend several hundred dollars on this process. Mine is still in a garment bag on the back of a door.

Oh my goodness! I’m sorry. Thats devastating! What is the material? Maybe the dry cleaners had no idea what the heck they were doing. I am scared to look at my dress. It’s sealed in a box right now.

@KingsDaughter:  My friends dress was completely ruined by the dry cleaners.. what was flowy, soft chiffon got turned into a crinkled, stiff mess. They refused to do anything about it, didn’t even refund the dry cleaning (which was expensive, since it was wedding dress specific). They basically blamed the dress and said theyd cleaned a million dresses before and no one ever complained. The girl who worked there even backed her up saying it didn’t look that way when it came in, but the owners wouldnt budge. My friends only option was to take them to court, which she didn’t, but she still isn’t over it.
