Myself, I wouldn’t like the idea as a whole just because I attach a lot of sentimental value to things. Not saying it’s not right for anyone else, though. I’m glad you love it! If you would rather it look polished so it can look ‘new to you’, you should be able to take it to a jeweler and have it polished up nicely. Dings happen in gold, it’s a soft metal. If you’re happy with the ring, the dings shouldn’t diminish the value in your eyes, as long as the diamond is sound. That’s where most of the ring’s value comes in anyway.

I think that so long as you attach the memories that you guys are making to that ring, it is perfectly fine to have a used ring. Hopefully he has no issues spending a little more to have it redipped and repronged, you deserve at least that.

I think that you can have a jeweler give it a makeover by polishing it and replacing the prongs. You wouldn’t want to risk losing the stone if the prongs are too damaged.
