Congratulations!  You have a beautiful ring and story to go with it. You FH is so thoughtful in his planning, it’s quite touching.

Since you asked ;). My story…. My FH and I had been dating for 3 years. about 6 months ago we had planned a vacation near the boundary waters on the MN/Canadian border for this past September. Fishing for a few days and then hiking, horseback riding and some serious relaxing. No cell phone service, no phones in the rooms, no internet, no TV and only 1 radio station that came in.  The second night there I broke down.

We were both over tired and were getting on each other’s nerves and I just was on an emotional overload and sleep deprivation (that had gone on for about 3 months while I tried to balance traveling to Florida to spend time with my very sick mother, work, and a long distance relationship). I turned 40 in August and 5 days later my mother passed away. I literally had slept no more than 4 hours a night for months.  FH has been amazing during all if this but our getting on each other’s last nerve while on vacation was too much for me.

I had missed so much work while my mother was sick that I had cosidered canceling the trip and then decided he and I really needed the time together and I really needed the vacation. That second night I broke into a hysterical crying mess going on about how I needed his support and understanding and how I was emotional and tired and I just needed him to give me a break and be loving and supportive even if I was being crazy. I told him that fighting at a time when I needed security from him was not helping me to be less emotional and crazy. He hugged me and things got better after that.

4 days later we had hiked to a scenic overlook at the top of a mountain (ok Minnesota has hills not mountains, but it was pretty tall).  We were standing on the edge of the cliff and he said something to the effect of how we had been on a journey together for the past few years and would I be willing to continue that journey with him. He got on one knee and asked me to marry him and presented my morher’s ring to me. I of course broke into a hysterical crying mess and said yes. I find myself a first time bride at 40 and I had no cell phone and no internet so I couldn’t even call anyone until a few days later when we returned to cell phone range. I was the woman at the lodge telling complete strangers we had just gotten engaged.  still don’t know why it didn’t occur to me to use the landline in the lobby if the lodge to call anyone but on the other hand it was nice to just relish in it being just us.

He had been planning to propose the whole time we were there and just hadn’t found the right time. So I broke into hysterics telling him I needed security when he had been planning on giving me security the whole time.
