Back when my fiance and I first got engaged, he proposed to me with a beautiful silver ring with a slightly larger white diamond in the middle and two smaller blue diamonds on the side. A few weeks later, my mom gave me her first wedding rings to wear (a simple gold band along with solitaire diamond ring) when we got married. I didn’t think much of it then because we hadn’t planned to get married for a while.
Now, I’m less than three weeks away from the wedding, and I have a mild concern. My engagement ring is silver and the wedding rings are gold. I know you’re supposed to wear your engagement ring on your right hand, but it feels weird to mix the metals like that. Am I being too picky or is this actually kind of a medium-sized deal?

I know lots of people who do mixed metals. One girl at my work has a gorgeous ring that was in platinum, and bands in gold and rose gold. Perhaps pictures would help us assess though?

cestdanielle: I think wearing yellow or rose gold with a white-toned metal is lovely. It’s a look that has become more and more popular, and I don’t think anyone would give it a second thought if you decided to wear jewelry of different metal types. I have both a yellow and white gold band and a rose gold band that I often wear with my platinum jewelry.
I think it just comes down to what you like and enjoy. Some people love to match, and that’s a great thing. Other people love to mix things up a bit, and that’s a great thing, too. The only thing that matters is what YOU like and what YOU are comfortable wearing.

Maybe you can try rodium plating to give the ‘gold’ look to your ring?

I think mixing metals is pretty common these days.

steph5565: I would, but my wedding rings are at the jewelers being resized and I’m at school, so I don’t have a camera to take a picture. 🙁
amberback: Thanks for those pictures! My wedding rings (band and solitaire diamond) are both gold, though, so it’d only be gold on one hand and silver on the other. Those pictures really make me feel better, though. 🙂
