I love reading everyone’s engagement stories, and then realized I didn’t even share mine! What the hang?? Well I’m sharing it now! (engaged Feb 18)
My fiance is a super woodsy hunter man, whereas I’m definitely a sheltered city (indoor) girl. He has spent the last couple years inviting me out to all sorts of things (fishing, bear watching in a tree, deer/moose hunting, biking 10km into the woods to call elk, camping, quadding, all that) and I do enjoy it even though it’s sometimes scary for me.
He invited me out to go cross-country skiing. I had never been before so I was really excited. We packed some hot chocolate and picked our trail. However, he overestimated my abilities as a beginner because the trail was incredibly difficult. I was sliding backwards down inclines and falling and rolling down declines…there were many hills. I was starting to get really mad and upset because I really wanted to be able to do it and I was just sucking. He kept saying, “I really want this to be special” but I didn’t clue in with my frustration in myself.
Eventually, after about an hour of this, I popped my skis off and decided to walk the rest of the way. By now I was pretty mad (in me, because I really wanted to do it!). There is a little cabin near the end of the trail where people can rest, so he suggested we stop there to have some hot chocolate. I begrudgingly agreed and we went in. He was fussing around a bit (getting the ring out, I didn’t know!) whereas I thought he might have a really bad wedgie, so I turned my head to give some privacy. When I looked back, there he was on his knee with the most beautiful ring I had ever seen!He asked, “will you marry me?”
I just started crying right away, haha. Like, a lot. He was laughing at me. My bad day had turned into the best day! It was not the most romantic, he laughed after he put the ring on and said, “this was the worst…sorry.”. But it fit us so perfectly. Now we have a funny engagement story we can tell everyone. We had our romantic dinner at The Keg after the fact.
Does anyone else have any unique engagement stories??
