Okay...after several trips to Walmart & Miachaels...my centerpieces are done! I found fake wood slabs at Michaels, which were just too perfect to not use! My wine glasses were given to me from a family member....the choc brown ribbon & rust orange flowers are from Michaels & the vanilla scented votive candles & votive candle holders are from Walmart! I am also thinking of carving our initials in a big heart on the wood slab! So....what do you think?!?! We are having a Fall themed Wedding in October this year! Also the ribbon will be tied on better w/ a prettier bow! :)

That's a really cute idea, but are you putting anything else on the wooden slab?

I think you could totally utilize some of that open space on the slab to either etch/burn (not sure what type of material your fake wood is made of) in table numbers, cute little LB+FI in a heart sign, or lay cute couple photos out on each one. I think the burned in #s or initials would be cutest.

@LissaBell86:  Very creative!  I think it would look even better with a heart and your initials carved into it.

    ooh cute!

Def carve the initials or put some type of design on the wood.

I'm not a fan of the bow.  It looks too small.  I would experiment with something fuller--like a wire ribbon or some other type of bigger ribbon?

I think you have come up with a great idea!

I agree with your idea of adding your initials to the slab. If it is fake wood, you might have to try a couple of ideas ( use the underside of one slab) to see what works the best. It depends on what it is made of- you may not be able to use w woodburning tool or carve into it. You could get a custom rubber stamp made.

You could also add a couple of shorter glasses with votives to give the cluster look

I'm not feeling the bow or the candle holder...I did similar centerpieces and the candles stayed on just fine without one.  But, overall, love the idea with the wood slab and carving initials in the wood!

The slab is looking pretty empty, i think you need three things on there, ie a shorter glass with a candle and a candle holdder on its own, I am not into the bow either.

Mrstobe as did similar centrepieces with sand, candles and mason jars and they looked amazing, check them out here http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/im-just-a-tease

@CoCoCourtney: Thank you! Yes that big open space will be filled with M+S in a big heart...I was thinking of scattering some champagne/choc brown beads on the slab too..but not sure yet! We are def carving our initials in a big heart though!

I love the idea of carving your initials and date into the wood slabs. I do think they need maybe one more decoration. Love the idea though, and I am intrigued by the wood slabs at michael's, I wanted to do a similar project and this woul dbe perfect!

Overall, I like it. I think it's a great start and really lends itself to more creativity to tie it together. Julies1949's picture takes your original idea to a whole new level. TBH, I don't care for the votive and tiny candle on top of the glass, but adding a bigger candle like the ones in her picture really made it a 'wow' centerpiece. Also, I think your carving idea is really cute and just what that wood needs! If it can't be carved, you can always use brown hobby paint to paint the design on.

I'm thinking of doing what you're doing and using pretty pink roses! And the initials idea is really neat. I never would have thought of that!

I agree with pp's suggestions. Also, I would be careful that the vanilla isn't going to be too over-powering and offensive. While I love vanilla candles, some people may be sensitive. I chose unscented candles for my cp's but I did put scented ones in the bathrooms.

@Eight6Eleven: Thanks for the suggestions..I think I am going to put just a candle on top of the wine glass & take the votive holder down & put two of them beside the wine glass w/ candles also.. & yes I love the carving idea!! :)

def don't use scented candles! the smell will interfere with people eating etc. go for the unscented ones.

i agree with pp - if u do a cluster of candles and put your initials on the slab it will be lovely. but i'd lose the ribbon and the flower. maybe some sprinkled flower petals instead?
