My family dog, Olive had to be put to sleep on Monday morning. It brings tears to my eyes just typing this. She was 14 years old, and seemed to be healthy. She had a heart murmor for years, but she was on medication for it. I talked to my mom Sunday night and she said that Olive was sick, she was throwing up and wasn’t able to walk. She thought maybe it was the flu and she was weak or something because she was running around, playing on Sunday morning.
My parents took Olive to the vet first thing Monday morning, and he said that she had had a stroke, which had drastically weakened her heart. He recommended putting her down so she doesn’t suffer.
Ugh, this is so hard. She was the greatest little dog, with such a unique personality. She always made me laugh, and I always looked forward to her barking and running up to the car to greet me when I went home.My parents are heart broken. My step dad keeps her collar in his pocket, and still goes for his two walks every day that he would go on with Olive.
Here’s my little girl:

She’s so cute. I’m so sorry for your loss. I hope you and your family find comfort in all the happy memories of her.

Sorry for your loss, just because they have fur doesn’t make it any easier. hold on to those great memories…They’re just about the only way we know true unconditional love.

🙁 She’s a mini schnauzer, am I right? My dog was too. We called him our little brother. We put him to sleep three years ago at 12 years old, and I still cry missing him sometimes. Just think about how much you loved Olive, and the home she had with your family. I look at pictures of Mikey and just think about how much he loved us, and it makes me happy to know he was loved every day of his life.

I am so sorry. Pets really are furry member of the family. Please find peace in the fact that her life was lived with love and care.

I’m so sorry she’s gone. It’s so hard to say goodbye to them. It’s very clear this dog had a lot of love during her life.

Thanks so much for your kind words everyone. I still can’t believe she’s gone.
@sweetpea87: She’s a schnoodle (schnauzer and poodle). She looked like a schnauzer though. Your Mikey is really cute. I actually called Olive my big sister (since she was 70 or 80 something in human years). I’m glad I’m not the only one to refer to a family pet as a sibling! They truly are part of the family though.

I am so sorry :(. We had to put down my family dog 3 years ago and I still cry sometimes when I think of him. We got him when I was 7 years old, he lived to be 13.
I miss him so much but it’s so comforting to know that he is no longer suffering. He had a stroke too and his health declined rapidly in the last few months of his life.

I am so sorry. We had to put down two family dogs a couple years ago and I remember how hard it was.
