I know this is going to sound strange. But as a creative writer, and someone who is often overwhelmed in thought I've found this to increasingly be the best way for me to calm down, or to sort out my mind.

I'll lay down on my bed. Leave on light on in the room so I don't fall completely in rock hard sleep. Lay my computer next to me, lower the light and adjust the volume, and turn on some chill music on Pandora. I have several play lists that I frequent but as long as the music is introspective and the tune calming it works. I like to listen to a lot of chill club music or some Sia. I'll close my eyes nice and tight, and allow myself to drift off. Generally I fall asleep but it's more like I'm half asleep and my mind is still running. All the thoughts from the day can run around, free, and I can calm down.

What is your favorite method of relaxation?

    That sounds really relaxing :)

I usually, after everyone goes to bed, fiance, son, stay up, and research different countries. I'll, dream about going to certain places, or just imagine what everyone is doing in those different countries, and where they lie their head at night. I usually end my nights saying a prayer. This helps me to appreciate everything I have, and drift off into a different place. I know it's different, and doesn;t seem relaxing, but it works for me, lately.

if I'm feeling stressed out, I take a brisk walk rain or shine. it's the only exercise I love. usually when I'm done, I no longer have that tight feeling in my chest.

Hmmm...I don't really have any relaxation methods now that I think of it.  Perhaps I'm too care-free?

Working out! I know it seems counter intuitive, but if I"m stressed, nothing clears my mind like a good run.

@SweetRose2011: Lol you and i seem so similar sometimes. I do that too!

I also like spending my free time planning out how my future house/apartment might look. I have a huge inspiration collection online from various stores of things I would buy to decorate, and of the possible places I would live. I actually just spent yesterday taking pictures of different furniture and bedding at a couple stores.

I like to open the blinds & put on my favorite praise & worship music & just sit & stop whatever it is I'm doing. Even is for only a few minutes it really refreshes me.
