My fiance told me that he’s been wanting to upgrade my engagement ring for a long time so I’m seriously thinking about what to upgrade to. I’m really not bothered whether it’s a diamond as they’re really expensive and my current ering has a tanzanite centre stone and it’s beautiful.
I’m just so torn as to which ring to go for! I am in love with a ring that’s a white gold diamond and sapphire ring but I have discovered that I LOVE rose gold (which it can be made in) but also am thinking that I’d like a coloured sapphire centre stone for this ring (a light green/blue colour). Do you think this would look better than a white sapphire centre stone if the ring were in rose gold? I’m really tempted with this ring, however because it would be custom made I’m a little worried that it won’t look as stunning as it does in my mind. Also, would the design of this ring be compromised as I have small fingers (size 4.75)? The sapphire in the middle would be a carat alone which would take up alot of space on my finger already without the sides, so would the sides curl around my finger?
Here’s a picture of the ring:
Here’s a picture of another style ring but is all the colours I was considering:
I love this colour combo, think it looks so beautiful!
There is one other ring that has caught my attention though. There is an edwardian opal and diamond ring that is very delicate and beautiful (both rings are the same price). The problem with this ring is that it’s an unusual shape and quite a large design and I have very small fingers so would worry that with a wedding band to it may look too much (I would have to have a custom wedding ring made too). Also, I’ve read that opal is very fragile so I’d have to be extra careful. However, this ring is one of a kind, I’ve never seen one like it…
Please help ladies, I’m so indecisive!
p.s.Thanks for reading! Sorry it’s long!

Yay!! The two pics you posted are beautiful. If you don’t want a diamond, I’d personally go with the sapphire idea & not the opal. Opals are gorgeous, but you want something that will last & you can wear everyday. I also love rose gold!! I think peach, champagne, pink & green stones really pop when set in it.
Try the first ring on if you can because I would have the same concerns as you- that the sides would rub my other fingers or that it wouldn’t be comfortable.
Good luck & congrats!

Girl, that first ring is amazing. And I never have ever seen a ring like the second one! What a beautiful color combo!
Call me crazy, but could you get the 1st as an upgraded e-ring and someday get the second as a right hand ring? That way you can have both…or get the 1st as a right hand someday and get the 2nd one as the e-ring. If you have concerns about the 2nd one wrapping around your finger, maybe you could hold off and get it another time? I don’t know how you will pick….which is why I suggested both!

Those rings are seriously gorgeous! I’ve had that exact rose gold one bookmarked on my computer for months and months. As far as rings go, I think sapphire is the way to go. Opal is a notoriously soft gemstone, one reason it’s not most commonly set into rings. They have a porous surface and thus should never be soaked in anything, be it water or jewelry cleaner. Opal is beautiful but possibly more suited to a necklace or something that doesn’t get banged around as much as a ring.
I recently tried on a ring setting very similar to the first photo you’ve posted. My finger is a size 5 and I personally thought it looked too blingy for me! It sort of overwhelmed my hand. Your best bet may be to stop in a jewelry store and try on something similar (or at least similarly sized), just to get an idea of how you feel about it.

@LaraW: i love the rose gold with that blue-green color…i’m getting an aquamarine RHR in rose gold for just that reason. the contrast really makes it pop!

they are both beautiful! Do you have a pic of your original ring? Tanzanite is a rare gem stone and they are running out of Tanzanite soon. If I had to choose one between the two you posted, I like the 2nd better, but in white gold.

Thank you so much bees! I think that, if I do go with ring number one, that I’d have it made in rose gold with a bluey green sapphire centre! I think you’re right about the opal ring, it’s very beautiful however I’d be constantly worrying about it plus if I did damage the opal, I’d be heartbroken that not only I damaged it but that such a lovely antique will have been ruined.

Your new ring is going to be gorgeous!

It looks beautiful! I’m glad you chose that one; I hear that opals aren’t durable enough for everyday wear 🙂

SandyDollHair and MademoiselleL: Thank you! I’m ridiculously excitable, it’s a little scary choosing a ring when I can’t see the finished result but I love the fact that I can customise the rings features!
Do you bees think a bezel setting would look okay with the ring (first picture)? The prong setting makes the centre stone protrude higher than the halo, so I’d rather it be set lower, in line with the halo 🙂
