During my last visit to his house, my FI and I were watching a rerun of "Beauty and the Geek". This one "Geek" reached his nerdy status by owning 15000 comic books.
I laughed & said "What grown man has that many comic books?" My fiance slipped away into his office and came out with 2 of 12 long white boxes. My jaw dropped to the floor! HE IS A SECRET COMIC BOOK NERD. He has over 2500 comic books in little plastic covers. I sat there in utter shock that after 3 years, I never knew! lol
He claims he's "saving them for his son" but when I touched one he snatched it back & said I was wrecking it. ha!
Does your FI have a secret collection (porn doesn't count! lol)? Or secret habit?
not nerdy but he def didnt tell me. in a previous life my FI...opps, HUBBY (gotta get use to that!) was a photographer for ummm, gentlemens magazines and while tearing apart the bookshelves to make room for my stuff i discovered dozens of volumes of pictures of naked ladies or ladies wearing very very little.
these have been sent to the garage for storage :)
lol i thought this was going to be a shocking post. no secret habits for mr. bee! my big secret was my massive debt... but i told mr. bee about that very early on in our relationship and he didn't run away!
Wow. I can't wait to find out what T is secretly doing/done. I did find out about what happened in the basement parties at the KA house though. I also know their secret handshake! (and he knows mine too!)
No idea if hubby is hiding anything from me, but he does own a shoebox of comic books that he has yelled at me for touching once lol He reads them on occasion. Your discovery made me giggle though :p
My FI is a huge Trekkie!!! I found this secret out early on in our relationship but it's something he rather I not share with friends. Ooops!
Hahaha, the secret was discovered while he was showing off a closet full of old hockey jerseys. He didn't realize his costume from when he was 10 was hanging in the same closet. ![]()
not so secret, but my fiance does collect transformers
I love to dance. FH doesn't. Who knew I'd end up with a non-dancer? Anyway, we'd been together a few years, and I was well aware of his no dancing policy when it emerged...he'd actually taken tap dancing lessons as a kid! His dad wanted him to be Fred Astaire or something. I really want him to take lessons for the wedding - maybe those tap lessons will all come flooding back?
FI and are both pretty nerdy. I don't make fun of him for being a Trekkie, he doesn't make fun of me for having gone to Lord of the Rings conventions. :)
SO has every D&D book that ever came out, it's awful, lol- he collects comics too, but he keeps them in his computer room at the house, so as long as they aren't lying around, I don't care- I <3 nerds, hehe. I used to build pcs, so I was one at one point too
LOL I love this post! Mine collected baseball cards (uhm..er...and he MAY or MAY NOT have collected Magic cards at one point...) but I knew about that early on. I swear we're not weirdos who sit around and play Magic cards ![]()
Do you guys remember POGS?!?! One of my friends fiancees collected those...She found them and was like WTF are THESE?!
Look at those transformers!!
Mine has a ton of Star Wars books. I don't think it's a big deal, but I consider his secret because we'd been together something like 6 or 8 months when he got all embarrased about it and showed me the secret bookcase full of them in the closet!
@KellyV - I think my fiance WISHES he still had his pog collection, he has referenced it a number of times, including this past weekend when I was punching out 2" circles and he said 'OOH what are those? Wedding pogs??'.....um, not quite hun-
These are funny! My husband has a baseball card collection from his childhood. When his parents were remodeling their basement, they said they were going to drop off the baseball cards at our place for storage. I assumed it would be maybe a couple of shoe boxes worth--how many baseball cards does one boy need? Boy, was I wrong. They brought 3 HUGE Rubbermaid tubs, you know the size that you'd put an artificial Christmas tree in! I was horrified. He keeps saying he needs to go through them and decide what he's keeping/selling/giving away. Right now, they're taking up ALL the room in our storage unit. Grr.
That's actually pretty cool and kind of sweet that he saved them, but maybe I'm weird... lol. Your son will be like ...
LOL.
Those transformers ... OMG. It reminds me of 40 Year Old Virgin ... didn't he collect action figures. Haha.
Um, I have nothing surprising to say about Fiance.
I on the other hand have like boxes and boxes of Barbie dolls that my mom may or may not have anymore. Lol. I had like every single Barbie, playhouse, and car! My little sister than played with them ... so who knows where they are now.
No surprises yet. His extensive Star Wars collection was out in the open for all to see. I keep finding more Stars Wars stuff though. Boxes of stuff in our crawl space. I did find a box of adult magazines, which he claims his brother left after he moved out. Not sure I believe that one.....
Ha! This post made me laugh. No secrets so far here, but this totally reminded me of the movie "Fever Pitch." I'm glad no one has found a big bag of hair yet!
@gloss - HAHAHA too funny, I showed mine your post once and he said the same thing!! Wedding Pogs?!?! HECK YES!"
Holy moley, look at those Transformers! My FI would be soooo jealous! Oh, and he is totally a nerd, or a D.O.R.K. (Director of Research and Knowledge) as he likes to call himself. He believes Star Wars is real, Mulder and Scully are meant for each other, and that Captain Kirk boldly went where no man had gone before.
I love my D.O.R.K. :)
My FI doesn't have any secret hobbies or collections, but I'm always learning about funny things he did as a kid. I recently found out that as a child he would refuse to go to school if the line at the toe of his socks wasn't excatly at the toe. He would complain if the line was under or above the toes, and he was like 6 years old! Hes such a weirdo :)
@bree72 I just fell on the floor laughing "I'm glad no one has found a big bag of hair yet!"
I love nerds & weirdo's... it makes our men who they are & I don't think any of us would change a single one of their quirks!!
My hubby is obsessed about aliens, ghosts and monsters (I'm talking big foot and loch ness kind) He literally watches every show on the science channel about them.
No weird collections on our side (my husband only collects key chains). A couple months ago, though, we found out about some deep, dark secrets from our best friends. The guy apparently collects comic books and he brought out his miniature collection (he's really into D&D). Plus, they used to live in Vegas, so the wife has a bunch of signed porno mags from porn stars they met at the annual conventions. :) We still love them, though!
my FI is a total nerd - but that was no surprise. He has 3 rather large boxes of Star Wars figures (mint in box of course). I don't complain because I have a rather large collection of shoes and handbags...
hahaha ... Kellyv ... Mr Bunny and I both like to play Magic! Hopefully we're not all that weird.
It's true, I was a little ashamed when he first taught me and we started hanging out at the comic shop every couple Friday nights, but hey, I'm just happy we've found a hobby we both enjoy!
My FI is nerdy in a lot of ways, loves Star Wars and Star Trek. (I love Star Wars too and he said he fell in love with me on our first date when I pulled out my lego Chewbacca keychain and said "WAAAAH!"- wookie sound)
Anyway, he likes so many nerdy things none of it is secret, or at least that I know of. Sometimes he watches G4 on television and I always say "You nerd, watching G4!" and he replies by saying "You're the nerd, you know what G4 is!" and it makes me laugh.
Ok, mambinki, can I just say that G4 is awesome? Have you seen "The Chaser's War on Everything"? Seriously, the funniest show ever!
And we LOVE Ninja Warrior!
My FI not only collects and has over 4,000 cards (( like pokemon and world of warcraft ect. )) but he also have 4 giant blue tupperware bins full of LEGOS. he has collected them since he was a child, we still can't pass up the lego aisle at a store!
oh i just remembered, hubby has about 8 THOUSAND marbles in the garage
apparently he use to use put them into photography solution stuff so it wouldnt silt to the bottom of the big containers of solution (or something like that-i wasnt paying too much attention) but now as hes gone all digital i thought i could give them away but wasnt allowed to.
he actually said "ive already gotten one grey hair since meeting you-now you want me to lose my marbles"... some days i think i married a strange man
my FH doesn't have a collection of anything...a little SHORT story...he doubled majored in math and comp. sci. in undergrad and comp. sci. in grad...so his *little* secret is, now that we're moving, i have found about 50...yea that's right...50 diff. comp. sci. books that he didn't sell back to the bookstore or get rid of...he likes to read them in his spare time!!!
but i don't say anything bc he bought me a copy of Tales of Beetle the Bard and doesn't scoff at my Harry Potter collection...or make fun of me when i spend hours on my cosplay costume for anime conventions...as a matter of fact, he actually asked if he wanted him to go with me to the last one i went to bc i went alone...it was really sweet!
and we're both love to cook...althought we don't have a ton of time to do so...every time we go to a store/garage sale we pick thru the cook books...and i mean spend about 30-45 min. looking thru them...we're dorks! we love being nerds!
Oh I just love all your comments! It's so funny to hear about all these little quirks :P
ok, stuff he didnt hide.... the 2198 CDs and 1429 DVD's he owns (and this number grows weekly)
i know there are that many because he created a data base for me to enter every single cd (title, artist and song tracks) and dvd onto it for him... and everything is alphabetised... he got me to do that too
Oh man, my FI is a true renaissance nerd. Star Trek, LOTR, Euro style board games (anyone?), anime (complete with decent sized cel collection), video games, Magic cards, you name it. Honestly, I've had fun learning about all his weird interests and adopted some myself. I even beat him at Star Trek Trivial Pursuit last week!
lol hey Kate-- I'm in a choir! Is that bad? :P
@eloping- holy hell! What a wonderful woman you are... I love to organize, but I'd never, ever have the patience to go through that many CD's & DVD's! I have trouble picking new releases at the movie store- I'd find searching for a DVD at your house so stressful!
@thisisme- I love that photo & I love nerd pride! We're all a little dorky in our own way :)
My guy kept all of his law major & law school books. Every single one of them. Didn't sell them back as used. In fact, he even has a full set of Bar exam study books still. I don't consider it nerdy, but it's pretty cute
He displays them on his bookshelf proudly like battle scars.
He also has a Giants (baseball) jersey from when he was like 10 - which actually fit me - so he had me wear it to a game once!
