On Sunday July 4th I will be running my first 5K! The fastest time I have been coming in at is 26.5 minutes but I’m hoping race day excitement will get me in at 25 minutes!
And of course the weekend after that I signed myself up for my first 10K. I’m not worried about the races being run so close because my regular Sunday runs are 5 miles long. I’m just nervous because I need a good time on my 10K as proof of my expected finishing time for my 1/2 marathon in September.
Any race day tips from the runners?

yay! you have a lot going on! My best advice is to begin hydrating the night before. Dont try to chug a bunch of water the morning of- you dont want to get a cramp and anyways the bathroom lines are usually horrendous!
Have fun and relax and definitely treat yourself to a pedicure when it is all over!!

I just signed up for my first 10k – it’s going to be a week after we return from our honeymoon in the Bahamas. I’m figuring that white dress + bikini + race = The Motivational Trifecta 🙂
From a friend of mine who recently finished her first marathon: Do NOT pick race day to try out a new sport bra. She picked a bra that was really similar to her other ones, but clearly not similar enough – she ended up with some fairly awful chafing.

Get there early enough to use the bathroom!! Littlecat is right about the lines. And have fun!

Thanks for the bathroom advice! I always find myself having to go really bad right before a run, haha. Plus this is a really big annual walk/run 5K so I know the lines for everything will be crazy long.

So I finished my 5K at 8:30 yesterday morning and made it in at 26.5 minutes! It wasn’t my goal but I’m still super happy since the course had quite a few hills.
And, I came in 12th out of 39 in my age group and 590 out of 2000 overall. Not too bad!
