My First DIY Project: A Card Box

posted 7 months ago in Beehive

I completed my first DIY project, a card box.  It took about an hour.  And I attached all the flowers without any glue!   What do you think?  I still need to make a little graphic that has our names on it.

I love it! I've been thinking that card boxes can look really dumb but  this one looks great! How did you do it?

aww so cute!  great job!

just curious - where did you get your box?  I've been trying to find something similar at Michael's & Joanns, but no luck.

Did you make the birds yourself?  They are so cute!

thanks for the compliments everyone.  here is how i made my cardbox.

the materials are as follows:

1 - storage box:  i got mine at big lots.  i had looked a joann's and michaels with no luck.  big lots had some cute ones, i got lucky and found one similar to my wedding colors.  they also had a box with cute little birds on there.  they had round, square, and rectangular one all under $10 depending on size.

5-6 silk bouquets of various flowers in your wedding colors.  dollar tree has a variety for $1 each, but right now i think michaels is having a sale on some.  i recommend using a mix of larger and smaller flowers.

i also picked up a roll of tulle for $1 to make a veil for my birdies.  i found my birdies on etsy last year from a very nice seller, cottonbirddesigns.  they were about $30 each and i was originally going to use them as cake toppers.  they worked out nicely.

1 - embossing too or really anything that has a sharp point that you can poke a little hole in the box.

directions:

cut a rectangular slit large enough to fit a big card.  also make sure your box is deep enough to accomodate different size cards.

pull the blossoms off the plastic stems.  make sure it has that tip that is used to attach the blossom to the stem.  this is basically what is used to hold the flower to the box.

poke a hole in the box.  it's up to you on where you want the flowers placed.  i liked the whole clustered look so i placed mine closer together.

push the tip of the flower through the hole.  if it doesn't fit, just widened it by stirring the tip of the embosser tool or screwdriver until it is the correct size, which should be just a tad smaller than the diameter of the tip.

do that a couple more times and your done!  hope this helps!
