As Mr. D & I began the discussion of our personal ‘dream’ wedding, the first thing we discovered was that we are not on the same page – not even a little bit! He wants indoor, luxe, shades of purple, big glam with bejeweled everything, whereas I’m looking for a simple, laid-back affair more akin to an upscale picnic. I want an outdoor reception as if grandma hosted it in her garden, with croquet on the lawn, dinner & dancing, vintage serving dishes, burlap & lace, with the focus on creating a warm atmoshphere surrounded by our loved ones.
So, of course he tells me, “This is your big day, whatever you want will be fine. I love you and I want you to be happy.” *awwwe* (he’s awesome like that!). So fine. I’m going to move forward. I purchase a 1/2″ binder, as I’m told by all the experts to do and jot down words that will evoke inspiration; warmth, summer, family & friends, earthy, candles & Mason jar lanterns, wildflowers, *oh it will be wonderful!* As I begin the process of collecting and idea or two, I’m buzzing in between websites, bridal magazines, The Great Martha, local bridal shows and I realize, (as I bounce ideas off of my FH, my girlfriends, my kids, co-workers, strangers in line at the fabric store)…Yikes! I have wedding fever! How wonderful!!
Then reality hits. zomg – How to pay for all of these lovlies?!! Not a problem I’ll create a one-of-a-kind DIY wedding. If other brides can do this, surely I can too! One of my best friends is a sewing genius, another is an event coordinator (how terrific is that?), they offer their assistance and I eagerly accept. Thanks ladies, luv ya- mm’wah!!
So, I have been gradually introducing my plans and ideas to my FH as we move forward with planning and this last weekend, I make a near-formal presentation to him complete with pics and I get to the end and he says to me, “Well, I know you want to have it outdoors but I really don’t get it – just go with your gut, I’m sure it’ll be fine” Fine?!! What does he mean fine? He is supposed to fall in love with my vision. Its perfected, really. What didn’t he get; what’s not to love?
Then, deep down, I realize that he will never love my ideal day but how do we come together on that? Here is my very first & only inspiration board.
Any of you Bees struggle with melding together opposing wedding themes with your FH or family? I could sure use your help! Thx!!
