My FMIL Saved the Day! or I Found THE Dress!

    So, I had a disasterous experience with the original dress I order that ended in tears. My FMIL took pity on my crying sausage roll self and offered to loan me the money for a second dress and took me on a 2 day whirl-wind tour of local bridal shops on a mission to find a new dress. And...

    I FOUND IT!

    Out of 50+ gowns I've tried on in the last year, this is the only dress which made me stop, hold my breath, and go "wow." The sale's lady agreed I looked spectacular. FMIL at first preferred me in another gown, but said she'd pay for whatever dress I wanted to get. After she got home and reviewed the pictures, FMIL called me to say that I had made the right choice. Looking at me in all the dresses again in the pictures she said the dress I choose was the most spectacular. Yay!

    So, without further ado, let me introduce to you my David's Bridal Side-Draped Taffeta Gown with 3D Floral Detail Style 9WG3045.

    P.S. The werid sheer cap sleeve type things you see in some of the pictures were the cap sleeve options we were testing out with the dress. I'm not sure if I want to add the cap sleeves. I wanted to in store, but looking at the pictures I think perhaps I prefer the dress without the sleeves. I'm not sure, but I do know I need to make a decision ASAP...much like I need to get to a seamstress ASAP to hem and bustle this dress!

    It's so pretty! I like the cap sleeves, I think it gives it a little something different. Great choice! And your FMIL sounds like a sweetheart, you're a lucky girl!

    @rabbit:

    YAY!!!  I am so happy for you!!! I knew you would find one today!! I don't know if I prefer it with the straps or without either!  It is really pretty both ways and it looks great on you!!

    Even though you've blanked out your face, I can see the relief and happiness in your body! Beautiful choice and I'm so glad this worked out for you.

    Not sure about straps vs strapless either... there's potential there with the straps, but they may need to be thicker at the base to work properly. I prefer the more blingy/lacy strap with your dress though. :) You can always order it with the straps, but ask for them to be removable to save you making the decision now!

    Congratulations!!

    @bakerella: The sparkly cap sleeves looked AWESOME in person...but the photos leave me cold. hmmm... My FMIL is so amazing! She is the example of the kind of persona I want to be- kind, generous, industrious, crafty, and handy. I knew we'd get along when after just a few weeks of knowing me, after FI and I just started dating, she started to call me her daughter and treat me like I was one of her own children. :) I can totally see where my FI gets his good (and while bad- his cleaning skills are just terrible) traits.

    @rlsulli1598@verizon.net: i think this strap issue is going to take a great deal of deep thought this weekend as i think i should make a decision by Monday. Thanks for weighing in!

    @cliffette: i can't order it with the straps as the dress was bought off the rack from david's and is currently laying in its bag in the back seat of my car (as i can't bring it in because my FI and I live together and I have no where to hide it). I could ask for them to sew the snaps in still though...so I could have straps but they'd be removeable. Good idea!

    I love Taffeta!  I read your story before, so I am glad that FMIL saved the day!!!  I had a similar experience with a dress from China, and I was so sad about it- sure enough, I ended up with taffeta too.  I like the sheen to it, and the sleeves.  Happy for you!

    I wore a dress with straps like that! I like it without the straps on you, to be honest- although they would look more elegant once they were fitted to your shoulders instead of too long. Glad you found a dress that you love!

    @cbee: Another vote for the sleeves! They seem to be winning! :)

    @meliss: Yay! Thanks! :D

    @MissTatas: Cap sleeves for the lead! Haha...

    @scg00387: You are the first to be strongly against the sleeves for me! But i totally see why. Its a hard decision to make!

    @nmsoonerbride: Indeed! Yay FMIL! :D

    Don't, however, love the cap sleeves. You don't need them, it looks gorgeous without :)

    I am totally and completely anti-cap sleeves. I think the idea of them is lovely but I think in reality they're not flattering.

    The dress however, is nothing short of gorgeous on you. :)

    @Ka393:, @huckleberry783:, @trailmix:, @daydreamwanderer:, @cincity75: & @Encore: I think you girls took the informal "Caps Sleeves: Yes or No?" pole back to an even keel as last night cap sleeves were winning and now I think its even! This is going to be a hard decision! :)

    @shushu1208: It was between this dress and the DB's Chiffon soft A-line with Beaded Lace on Empire Style 9V9743. What dress did you end up picking instead?

    The dress flatters you.

    I think the best part of your story is how you've deepened your relationship with your FMIL--in the end, that's what's really going to matter!

    Hey! I know I already put in my two cents about the sleeves, but I just wanted to ask--have you considered a lace bolero?  I know it can be frustrating to find the right one, and you've already been through a lot (!!!) with the dress, but if you are considering cap sleeves because you'd prefer a bit more coverage, I personally think the right bolero would be absolutely adorable on you!

    You know maybe there was a reason the other dress didn't fit.  Because it knew it wasn't meant for you! ;) That dress looks great on you!!! Good find and you definitely have a very special FMIL. Good for you!!! Also, I am with the cap sleeves camp.

    I am very happy for you!! I was waiting for your update. You look gorgeous in the new dress!!! However, I definitely prefer it without the cap sleeves, they make the dress look less elegant in my opinion.

    So happy for you. Definitely prefer without the cap sleeves - I think the dress stands on its own the way it is! (and I'm usually a huge cap sleeve fan)

    Very lovely dress.  but i vote NO to the cap sleeves. they do nothing for you and frankly look a little odd.  if they're leaving you cold when looking at the pics now, then you'll prob feel the same way when looking at your wedding photos after the wedding, you know?

    @bakerella: i do one better and keep the tally sheet in my head! :) I'm fairly good with simple numbers (which might be why i'm awesome at my bank teller job).

    @iswimibikeirun: I love being BFFs with my FMIL. I'm not sure my FI thinks its the best thing in the universe- she takes my side in arguements ;p - but he does love that we get along so well. And so do I!

    @huckleberry783: When I was looking at the chiffon dresses, i fell in love with a sheer chiffon bolero but I'm not sure how it'd look with the taffeta. i'd LOVE one of those awesome bright colored boleros on etsy but i can't afford one and don't have the time. I was thinking a shrug/bolero would be nice. The issue is less modesty (I am surprisingly well covered in the new dress) but more that I am very self-concious of my arms and shoulders and would feel more comfortable and relaxed if they were covered somewhat.

    http://www.etsy.com/listing/49789926/poison-navy-raw-silk-bolero-m-size

    @shushu1208: That dress was in my list of favorites but neither of the stores i went to had it in my size (or even near my size). So pretty!

    @Kemi82JP: You have an excellent point!

    It looks great!  I'm glad you got your happy ending :)  On a side note, I also vote that strapless looks better!  It's a personal preference, but I just think that straps tend to get in the way.  Congrats again on your beautiful gown! :)
