@cmoest:  I could totally see that costing $6k/$7k. Especially if she was like me and counted all the wedding expenses. Why would she lie? Honestly, start getting estimates of your own and I think you’ll figure out how easy it is to spend $6k/$7k on a wedding.

@cmoest:  Have you started to plan a wedding yet? Things add up really quickly and there are a lot of hidden costs. Photographers are $1k and up for your wedding day. When you add in the dress, alterations, photographer, DJ, and food, yes a wedding could easily cost over $6k, even a backyard wedding. Maybe it cost $6k, maybe it didn’t. What does it matter to you what others choose to spend on their wedding?

@cmoest:  Yes absolutely it can cost that much. My budget is $8000. I am DIY everything. Officiant is a family friend. I work for a photography company and they are giving me a wicked deal, bm’s are buying their own dresses, hair is free, gm’s getting their own suits, wedding bands are super cheap, we are doing hor deurve recpetion, offering only wine, coffee and juice. Everything adds up. Have you did your budget break down really well? Mine started out as $5000 but grew and grew the more I researched and added to it and started putting deposits down.

@cmoest:  oh my god. Why is it even any of your business how much she spent? Plan your own wedding your own way and don’t worry about picking apart what your friend did.

its hard to say,  maybe she did soend 6-7k, but whats most concerning to me is why are you so hung up on it? Is it because you think she lied, or some other reason? people fib about their wedding expenses all the time… my fil’s thinks me and my parents are paying 20-25k… We just hit a little over 41k…

Theres lots of reasons, perhaps their embarassed or want to appear as though they spent more or less than they did. It really shouldnt bother you this much though.

Maybe OP is just trying to figure out how much her own wedding is going to cost and is not wanting to spend 6k-7k?

@cmoest:  I think it’s courtesy to “tip” friendors. (Vendors who are friends) So, your friend might have done that!

@cmoest:  more importantly, why do you even care?!

Venue and catering costs alone can easily add up to that much.

I think that even doing alot of DIY stuff, there are so many little things that add up quickly. The vendors obviously are the most expensive parts, but there are a lot of hidden costs that you would never think about until you start planning.

@cmoest:  Not sure why you’re worried but this, but OK.  I would suspect since she got so many things non gratis, she probably tipped them more.
