- Wedding: June 2011
I thought I’d write a post about my recent experience with http://www.Gemvara.com in case anyone was considering using them.
I really wanted a plain in style wedding band that had emeralds in it. After searching around ‘real’ stores and online for weeks, I decided to order from Gemvara. They have a large selection of styles that are totally customizable. Someday I want to go back and get a fire opal ring and some other emerald goodies 🙂
The wedding band I chose and ordered is shown as this online:
I ordered the ring on 3/24 and the confirmation email said I would receive it around April 15th, and included an introduction letter from their customer care manager.
I got 2 more email updates from the customer care manager regarding the creation of my ring which were neat. I then got a notice that it was shipping and that someone needed to be home the next day for FedEx delivery, which was right on time for their estimate and came on Friday, 4/15.
It came in a small box with this on top:
Inside was a handwritten note from the customer care manager (or someone else who signed her name – in any case – real pen on paper!), info about the process of making my ring, what the stones in it mean and how to care for it. I know these are prepackaged paragraphs – my ring has both diamonds and emeralds and in one paragraph it says to use a sonic cleanser and in the other it says to never use one 🙂
Underneath that and some printed tissue paper was this:
The ribbon is part of the bottom of the box (I thought it was super cool) and I couldn’t wait to unwrap it 🙂 Their logo is printed underneath the bow. When I opened it all up, I got this:
I had been having nightmares lately (literally) that the ring wouldn’t fit, so I was very, very glad to pull it out of the box and slip it on my finger to see. They have a 30 day return policy except on engraved items, so this tag is around the band:
Of course, I had it engraved… which you can barely see here (blackberry camera… should have added a ‘real’ camera to the registry!). It says: More than anything 6/25/11:
I was very relieved that it fit, it’s very comfortable with a rounded edge and is actually a little loose, which is good – once the snow FINALLY decides to stop falling around here I know my fingers will swell a little. Here it is on it’s own:
And here it is with my engagement ring:
I was a little surprised at how wide the band was – but I think that’s mostly because the jeweler that resized my engagement ring told me the wrong thickness, I thought they would be closer together in width.
There is a slight gap with my engagement ring, it doesn’t bother me and my ring will need a new setting sometime in the next year or two so that may be fixed. My ring was FIs grandmothers and it’s very, very thin in back and white gold so I know it’s not very structurally safe.
Other than the width of the band being somewhat of a surprise, I’m thrilled with my purchase. I have noticed that the prices on Gemvara change almost daily it seems – with what I assume is the ever changing price of gold.
I paid about $30 less than what the ring is being sold for today.
Now…. I just have to wait a little over two months to get to wear it and keep Fiance away from it, since the engraving is a surprise to match his – I put the irish translation of more than anything in his 😉 and figure out the best way to clean it.
I had searched for a post like this on this site and others when I was considering ordering my ring, since it’s a lot of money on a very important thing to do blindly. Hopefully this will help anyone thinking of doing the same!
