Continuation of Sunday’s post: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/i-said-yes-to-the-dress-my-oleg-cassini-dream-pic-heavy#axzz2qNZMbDSa
From the day I got engaged and even before, my mom made it very clear that my dress and all that went with it (shoes, alterations, etc) was “taken care of”. Obviously, I figured that meant it was a gift from her…
I got my dress on Saturday and my mom and I were both pretty emotional (we’re extremely close and the littlest thing sets us off!) What she didn’t have the strength to tell me at the time was that this gown was paid for with the remaining savings after my grandmother passed away in 2004. She didn’t have a lot of money or even insurance, but had put away what she could for funeral costs and asked my mom to use whatever was left for me. My mom knew this was her plan for the money. She’s been holding on to that information for 10 years now.
I was so incredibly touched when she told me this last night, it makes my dress all the more special. She would have adored it. Also, my grandmother and I were very close, as she practically raised me since my father passed away when I was a baby.
I wear a charm on my neck that is almost a tiny b&w picture frame with her on one side, and my father on the other. I plan on having it put on my bouquet so they can both see me walk down the aisle <3

@BurlapnLace: wow. I’m crying. My grandfather (who was like a dad to me) passed in 2010. Before he passed, he had a conversation with my dad that it was time for him to step up and “take care” of my sister and I. My dad and I have never had a good relationship, and planning my wedding has been such a bonding time for us. He has helped more than I could ever imagine. id like to think my sweet grandfather has something to do with it. I’m having a portrait painted of him for my dad in thanks. Anyways, I can imagina what an emotional and sweet moment that was for you and your mom 🙂

Yeah, I’m pretty emotional about it still! I just conveyed the story to someone at work and started to cry lol. I need to get it together! I wonder how I’ll ever get through my wedding day sometimes!

That is one of the most touching stories I’ve ever read. I’m sure you’re grandmother would’ve loved your dress, it is really beautiful.

oh god, I’m at my desk and trying so hard to not cry because I have to talk to guests, otherwise I would be bawling. That is so beautiful. I’m sure she’s looking down on you and absolutely beaming with pride. I’m sure they will both be walking you down the aisle on your wedding day.

Ugh.. I didn’t expect to cry. How amazing that your mom was able to hold onto that info for so long!!
