I’m at a complete loss at this point. I thought I knew what I wanted to do with my hair, but I feel like I’m back to square one.
I went in asking for this:
And I got this:
I was disappointed to begin with, but what sealed this as a “no” for me was when partner told me it looked like prom hair … and he’s totally right. I just don’t know what to do now and I’m feeling lost. Anyone else have this experience?

is there even a braid in the front?

In your inspiration, it looks like she has a braid going on in there.. i don’t see one in yours. Maybe that’s what’s throwing you off?

they didn’t even leave any loose hairs. did they actually look at the picture?

Perhaps your hair stylist needs a pair of glasses.
I don’t think you need to change what you want to do with your hair, you need to change the person who’s styling it.

@dreamhazer: I vote to find a new stylist. The pictures look nothing alike. You need to have stylists and makeup artists you can count on to actually do what you ask. I have complete confidence in mine..Except I’m eloping and she won’t be the one doing it, lol. Just have to hope for the best in my case.

Yeah it it a little too tight and perfect looking. It needs to be a little more messy and loose. But there’s potential there!

ummm, they totally missed the mark. Did you question your stylist?

Your Fiance is right; it looks like prom hair, dated prom hair. So, get a new stylist, the person who did that obviously didn’t listen to you at all! Your inspiration photo is great by the way, I’m sure you’ll end up looking wonderful as long as you get someone who knows what she’s doing.

I had to have my hair stylist put up and take down my hair three times, because it wasn’t quite how I had envisioned it. If you like the stylist and think she can do a good job, don’t be afraid to tell her what you want to have changed.
Having said that… that looks like a difficult hair style to replicate unless you have a slightly wavy texture to your hair. I would take the picture of your trial and your inspiration to your next trial and explain what you like and dislike about each.
Good luck! Hair is so frustrating…

No…. Just no… It’s not a bad hairdo, but the fact that it’s so far from what you asked for is not on…
I can understand using a bit of creative license for the back since you have to kinda imagine it from the inspiration pic but the front and side is so off the mark it’s crazy…

She didn’t bother really looking at your inspiration. You wanted a lower, looser updo, with a nice fat braid crossin the top. She jsut whipped up some generic hair.
But isn’t it nice to know now that you don’t want to have this person doing your hair now, while you still have time to find someone better?

I told her messy, and she said that it would photograph stupidly. She also insisted that the loose hair in the photo was actually “feathers”.
There is a braid, but as you can see it’s not placed correctly. It starts too high and is too far forward.
Unfortunately, I’m getting married in the morning in a salon desert — it’s pretty much use her or do it myself.

Not even remotely close. I don’t even see the braid you’re referring to in your hair. Do you have any friends or family that might want to give it a shot? Obviously, this hairstylist has no idea wheat she’s doesn’t adn she’s not even trying to give you any simblance of what you want.

@spoiledvamp27: My photographer is one of my best friends and is also a pretty fantastic burlesque performer who does all of her own styling — I’m just going to ask her to help. I’m just scrapping this idea all together and going for something retro.
Like this, with a pretty branching hair clip on the side:
