I think it’s really pretty! I think if she curls smaller sections of hair as opposed to large chunks it will have the look you want. I think the hair originally reads as more “special” and formal. Down it’s still very pretty, and has a laid back bohemian vibe. Ultimately, I think it depends on what your vision is for the wedding.

When I took curly inspiration pics for my hair trial, my hair dresser pointed a few things out to me.

1. All my inspiration pics had blonde (or lighter hair)

2. My hair was almost black.

she said all the time girls come in with dark hair with curly blonde inspiration pics and then are never happy with the curly-ness of their hair trial. She said that when your hair is all one color (especially a dark color), the curls don’t look as noticeable. So to fix that, she added some light brown highlights into my hair just to make the curls hit the light more and stand out better. Maybe your hair really is curly after your trial, it’s just hard to tell because there is no dimension to your hair color to reflect the curls.

Notice in your ‘here’s how curly I would like it to be’ pic how she has some light color in her hair too? that way it looks much curlier.

maybe you should add some dimension and depth to your hair color and you will notice the curl much more.

Bexx:  agreed.

I was going to suggest some subtle highlights. I think the movement and texture you’re looking for was likely achieved, but just not noticeable on your hair. Buns, braids, and half-updos tend to look best with highlighted or blonde hair.

MrsPhilly:  Girl, YOU are self-conscious of your hair? You have amazing hair! People like me spend a ton of money on extensions, thickening stuff etc. to try and at least come close!! As far as your updo, I think it looks great. I would try a bit more wave to it, and def leave more down like in your second pic!!

MrsPhilly:  I agree with PPs that some subtle highlights would do more to emphasize the movement/texture of your hair but I don’t by any means think it’s necessary.  I really liked the original style (ie before you took the braid down), but I think that the side bang (your right side) is too heavy.  Maybe try the same style but have the “braid” section start a little wider and so that more of the side band is swept back into the braid.  I’m not sure if I’m making sense, I just find that side part a bit thick and heavy rather than a little wispier.

I think it looks so pretty! And think maybe if she curled smaller pieces instead of bigger chunks thata you might get more curls, or the way you want it more! Looks so pretty tho!

MrsPhilly:  The back is very pretty; however, I think the braids should maybe begin as twists or simple pulled back sections, then braids.

The smaller curls do look more “fun,” like you’re going out for the night.  It’s cute, but I think what you posted originally looks very classy.  I like everything about the first set of pictures, except how much hair is in the knot/bun.  It looks great from the front too.  To me, your hair doesn’t look less curly than the inspiration pics.
