Wow I had not even heard about this until right now. I can't imagine a worse feeling for members of a community. Thoughts and prayers....
I'm so sorry. Your school is in my thoughts. :(
I dont understand what's going on now-a-days. My school district has lost a dozen students and teachers within the last year. 7 of those students committed suicide due to bullying. What is this world coming to?!
It was for sure a very sad day. Please also keep the father of the shooter in your prayers, a local police detective. He had just gotten custody of his son, and now he has also lost a son.
@tksjewelry: Do you know what happened? Was it a disgruntled student? Employee?
@Swiss Miss to Bee: Yea, its been a rough year. It's really sad that these kids feel that they have nowhere to turn.
I have goosebumps.
I'm so sorry that this has taken place at a location that is so important to your family and friends (or any location for that matter).
My thoughts are with you.
I need to turn on the news.
There are not alot of details yet. We know it was a senior that was suspended earlier in the day for tearing up the football field with his car. He had only transferred to the school a few months ago from the capitol city. He wrote his suicide note on facebook. Such a sad young man. I am thankful that the code red went out quickly and the teachers locked down the school very quickly. Within minutes, the whole disctrict went into lockdown.
@tksjewelry: Oh my goodness I am so sorry. I hadnt heard of this incident until right now. That is terrible. I will be keeping all of those who are affected by this in my prayers :-(
that's horrendous. all the best thoughts and prayers to your community.
My thoughts are with you all. This is very terrible news.
I'm so sorry. I was just reading about that and hating that another shooting happened. It's hard when it happens in a place where you've walked, know people, and will see people effected for years to come.
I am so sorry. I heard about this on the news last night and was devastated. I will keep everyone in my prayers.
Thank you all so much. We will be doing a prayer vigil tomorrow when the kids go back to school, possibly Monday. Looks like we have more than enough alumn coming to totally surround the school.
Sorry to hear that.
People carrying guns is so unsafe. The government should really do something about it :(
I am so sorry! I cannot imagine what you must be feeling. I am sending good thoughts your way :(
edit: no excuse to threadjack.
I'm sorry to hear what has happened at your school. I hope that soon we can find a way to prevent this violence at other schools. I am glad to hear that we have learned lessons about lockdown procesdures from other tragedies.
From experience, I know its awful and it leaves you with a terrible feeling thats impossible to describe. Its terrifying for those students and for the community. Vigils will help the community come back together after such a terrible event. If you want to talk, feel free to PM me. I've been through this twice unfortunately :(
@Pia2010 - That's not what this thread is about. Don't thread-jack.
I'm so sorry. Omaha has been in my thoughts since I read about this yesterday. I'm not a particularly religious person, but your town is in my prayers tonight.
@Pia2010: It was a police officers service revolver that was used. So it's not a gun thing, it's about a child that was sad and angry. I feel so sad for his father.
It truly saddens me to hear of a teen in so much pain that he would be driven to this. I have a coworker that has family in the area and it is scary to even think that may be a family member or someone you know. It is so sad to hear of this and those families are definitely in my prayers
Now, that stupid church in Kansas, is going to show up and protest at the vice-principals funeral. Stupid insensitive smucks. The alumni association is getting together to line the street and hold up sheets and bring radios tuned to a local radio station (that will be transmitting the funeral) so that the family never sees them or hears them. I cannot believe that people can be so sucked into a cult that they would protest at funerals, just sad, just plain sad.
My condolences to your community and their families. I can only imagine the amount of pain - for the victims and the shooter's families - that has rocked this community. I'm glad to hear that you are all so close-knit; I'm sure it will help the healing process along. As a high school teacher, stories like this terrify me, but I can only imagine how horrific it would be to experience it. I'm truly sorry for your community's loss.
I'm so glad your community is going to stick together to take on that church. It's a terrible time for those families and your community, and to have to hear the things that church spouts at such a time, is truly horrific.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your whole community right now & I am so terribly sorry that such a tragic incident has happened.

Beekeeper
I live in Omaha, NE and my high school, Millard South, was the scene of a deadly shooting earlier today. Millard South is a very large school, but the alums are a very tight knit group. I had alot of friends (all alum) whose children attend Millard South and alot of classmates that now teach there. I am asking my fellow bees to keep the family of the principle who lost her life, the principle who is in the hospital, and the students and staff in your prayers for the next few days. It was a very tense day for the whole Indian/Patriot family.
Thank You.
