My dress came in the mail on Friday! All week, I kept wondering if I chose the right dress. It was down to my final 2, both at different salons tried on about a week apart so I couldn’t really compare and neither salon would let me take pictures. But I ended up buying a sample online for a great price.
When I opened the box, I was again underwhelmed when I saw the dress on the hanger. Oh no, dress regret coming on? No beading or lace like I orginally envisioned for myself. It’s a simple chiffon gown that I hope will look nice on the beach. But I put it right on to see if it was how I remembered. The sample I tried on at the salon was a size 16 so I was a bit worried it wouldn’t look the same. No longline bra yet (I was too anxious to even bother putting a strapless one on), but I’m surprised the draping actually gives me curves! I have a waist and hips! I’m short and pretty straight up and down (5’1″, 105lbs). Sorry for the awful cell phone pic, but it’s the only one I could take. The sample was a size 6/8 and it fits perfectly although I still plan to lose 5lbs of my “dating body.” The silk chiffon is so soft too! And hopefully I’ll be able to find a longline bra that will really squeeze me in and make me look thin!

Thanks ladies. It’s so different from what I was originally going for (organza trumpet with a little lace or beading…like my #2 pick). I saw it at the salon and wasn’t even going to try it on. But my consultant said it was nice and light for a beach wedding and it wouldn’t do any harm just to see it on. She actually wasn’t too impressed with the dress on the hanger either. But my choices were a bit limited. The majority of the dresses there were fit and flares with too much going on at the bottom for a short person like me. But when she slipped this dress on, I was surprised how much I liked it (no waterworks, but I guess I’m just not the type). There was nothing about it that I wanted to change…a big plus for someone as picky as me. A lot of the chiffon gowns I’ve seen all looked the same, but I thought the draping and the ruffle at the bust made this one a little unique. But now I just have to make myself stop looking at all you beautiful bees in your dresses! That’s when I start questioning my dress…should I have gone with a trumpet, something fancier?
By The Way…do you ladies think I should add cap sleeves. I’m kind of torn. I never wanted a strapless dress, but the ones I’ve tried with sleeves were a bit overwhelming. I do like pictures of cap sleeves on gowns, as long as they look like part of the orginal dress design. Don’t know if it will look weird with my dress though. Thoughts?

Looks great! Very beach appropriate. 🙂
I would probably leave it as is without cap sleeves.
