@Ryansgirl:  I got my FI a helicopter tour of our city for his 30th. Given it was a milestone, I wante dto step it up a bit and give him more of an experience than a gift.
Good luck! I”m sure he’ll love whatever you get him

@Ryansgirl:  What are some of his interests?

You can do a hot sauce of the month club, a brew your own beer kit, I took my FI on a stock car experience (he got to drive a nascar since he loves speed haha). Canyou give us any ideas?

HAHA! I was literally just thinking about this earlier today… FI is turning 30 on Dec 17th. :)(BTW – I’m a Christmas Eve baby, too!)

I’ve bought a beer brewing kit for FI in the past and he freaking loves it. He gets to make his own beer (and be meticulous about it) and then has an excuse to have people over to try them out!
A beer-of-the-month thing could be a clever thing, too (and takes up MUCH less space)

I usually buy FI a watch, though. I bought him a classic Movado as an engagement present, and a Projects watch for xmas a few years back.

Because we are getting married in a few months, I can’t do a big party for his 30th.
I’m planning to have a bunch of people over at the apartment for an “open house” (drop by and leave whenever you like) and serve food and drinks. I can’t surprise him with it because I just don’t have the energy hahaha

What does he like to do?
Or what does he dream of doing?

Oh and also… sometimes you can find a place that will let you brew your own beer/wine, but at their facilities. You come back at certain intervals to brew, bottle, and pick up your beer.

Might be a good experience!

Is it feasable for you to take another trip to Charleston? then you can take him to pick up his hot sauce! Hockey tickets or golf certificates to a course he doesn’t normally play? A little weekend getaway to somewhere nearby (not sure where you live but there are always great places within a few hours away in Canada). I think it is important to distinguish this as a milestone Birthday and not let Christmas hype take over which is hard being Christmas Eve.

@Ryansgirl:  DH wants something pretty specific so that idea wouldnt help you out much but a huge hobby of ours is four wheeling and he wants to make some modifications to his so I will give him the money towards that. Not very romantic or sentimental but its what he wants.

@Ryansgirl:  You must live out east if flights are cheap! haha! If you have a chance to go to Jamaica some time the Sandals Grande Riviera is all inclusive golf which was a big hit with my DH, downside is the resort is huge.  Being that he is a golfer does he have or have you thought of a range finder or one of the watch type ones? http://www.bushnellgolf.com/gps/gps_rangefinders.cfm

@Ryansgirl:  Wow! That is a good deal, I totally thought you would be from Toronto to get cheap flights like that. I’m going to have to look at flights myself.  What about a weekend in Banff?

My FI’s birthday is coming up quickly too. He’ll be 35, not a typical milestone but I wasn’t around for when he turned 30. I got him a few things I knew he needed/wanted but wouldn’t buy himself – hiking shoes, marmot coat, little gadgets for his desk at work etc…He likes practical gifts.

What he really loves though is food. So I promised to take him out to dinner or cook him a very nice dinner, his choice. Also, I offered to have a small casual party with some friends and yep, more food! I will also make him M&M cookie bars – it’s his favorite way more than cake. He loves this aspect of it way more than anything I could buy him because he is just so unmaterialistic.
