@mrskisstobe: Actually, it could be that someone has stolen your identity, racked up a huge amount of loans and those loans have been sold off to bill collectors. I love the fact that you threatened them though. But don’t sit on this. Monitor your credit very well. I can’t believe they called you at work.

Ugh! That’s so annoying! I can’t believe they called you at work and wouldn’t give you the IP address! I hope speaking to you cancelled any applications those companies had. It’s terrible how hard these people try to get your hard earned money!

Call your bank(s) and credit card companies and have them put a fraud alert on your account.  Also call the credit reporting agencies and have them do the same thing.  That way the crooks won’t be able to take out more loans or credit cards.

It bears mentioning since you are threatening legal action, just like companies have to warn a customer up front that the call may be recorded, you would have to tell them that up front, too, or it’s just as illegal.

But I would definitely notify the bank where your account was closed just to be safe. It sounds like you are taking a lot of good precautions, and I hope it doesn’t escalate for you.

That sucks! I hope you get everything worked out…

You have my complete sympathy.

I’m STILL fighting the collection agency over my ID theft. All I need from them is a validation letter–and they refuse to send it.

Sounds like you’ve taken all the right steps. Good luck!
