Since it is so hard to find photos online of real women in the Sophia gown – particularly the silk chiffon one (there are plenty of the silk tricotine photos) – I decided to post my dress. It’s for an outdoor summer wedding in the Tetons (read: not formal). I believe Moosey has the same dress!
Got it off eBay NWT for $175. It’s one of the lesser expensive JCrew wedding gowns and sometimes goes on sale on their website. It needs to be taken up (that’s not a train!), boobage area taken in, and maybe the shoulder area shortened a tad. I picked it because a) it was inexpensive and b) I already own 3 of the Sophia dresses in colors and I liked them. However this dress is slightly older than my other Sophia dresses I think so that’s why the boobage area fits differently.
Alas, it’s me! I can’t wait to get it tailored and twirl in it!
Maybe the seamstress can use the excess fabric and make me a floofy chiffon flower for my shoulder or hair!

oh it is lovely! and that is a great idea to repurpose the extra length you cut off!

oh cool! I hate how hard it is to find real women in the j crew gowns. Some of the silk ones look so potentially unforgiving that I couldn’t bring myself to hit order. But you look fabulous and that is a GREAT dress!
THANK YOU for posting.

@sienna76: You look so beautiful! I am looking to buy this dress but have never purchased from j crew. I am looking to purchase from ebay but was wondering how their sizes run. Would you say that the measurements are true to their size chart? If you feel comfortable can you tell me what size the dress is in your picture? Also, how tall are you? Thank you so much for your help!

@kmstokmj: I saw that you are in PA and I thought I heard that JCrew has a store in NYC where they have the actual dresses you can try on. I think you need an appointment but it might be worth it.

@kmstokmj: I’m not the OP but Sophia is my dress — I ordered based on my measurements and it seems a teeny bit big in the waist and bust. I wouldn’t worry too much about your hip measurement, to be honest, because it’s pretty much an empire dress. And I found that it ran quite long — I’m 5’11” and I stil have to get it hemmed.

@kmstokmj: I am 5′ 5.75″ and I normally wear a size 6. In fact all of the silk chiffon Sophia dresses (the short one) that I own (like 4 of them) are all in a size 6 and they fit perfectly. I’m an A cup so the dresses seem to be made for my body.
However, the gown is more roomy like the previous poster said. I’d say maybe an 8? Or a buxom size 6? The boob area was far too roomy for me personally. I bet a 10 could get away with it based on their chart http://www.jcrew.com/sizecharts/main.jsp?sizeChart=1,3′ defer=’defer
I am going to sell this dress if anyone is interested. It still has the tags. Since I already have 4 dresses, I’m thinking I should go for something different for my wedding!
My natural waist is 29″ and I normally wear a 36A bra if that helps.
PM me rather than type in here.
