For those who read “My boyfriend’s a jerk…” and the various updates, I felt I owed you an update.
He got on one knee and asked me to propose this Saturday.
I said yes, after lots of conversation.
For those of you who might feel annoyed, I took a lot of what you said into consideration, but also viewed it from the point of those reading bits of information, without the full story so I moderated for that.
Friday night I went over my boyfriend’s to stay the night and had a long conversation with him. Somethign along the lines of – yes, you were trying to surprise me on mybirthday, but when I go to make plans because I didn’t know I had any “surprise plans” it’s not fair to get upset. That’s when you have to come up with an excuse or say “Come over, it will be a surprise” and not tell me what. Not get angry, and that geting me that upset on my birthday- not cool.
Plus the conversatin of – I heard from your roommate you ahve to move, you didn’t tell me – and we have a prior issue of you having moved to Florida without telling me in the past – what’s up?
So, after like 4 hours of honest conversation before bed.
So Saturday morning, I left his house early to go work my volunteer shift at the con. I felt like dressing up in flowing skirt and corset. My boyfriend stayed behind to catch up on sleep, saying he’d see me later.
The boyfriend showed up in his best renaissance/medieval gear – dressed to the 9s. He looked amazing and sat down to join me, helping volunteer for a while. We spent the better part of an hour helping a young child find her older friends/guardians in a crowd of more than 7,000. the impact of that really had us both thinking about what’s important.
As I got done with my volunteer shift – the conversation went
Him: I love you very much, you know that
Me: Oh yeah?
Him: Yes, very very much. You’re so beautiful. I want to spend my life with you, you know that..
Me: Are.. you sure?
((here’s where he goes down on one knee and pulls the ring out of nowhere))
Will you marry me?
Me: Are you serious? … a.. are you sure?
him: Yes, I’m serious. I’ve never been more sure of anything.
I said yes…
After spending a day together just enjoying the con, we went back to his apartment to actually spend a lot ot time talking about things, straightening a few things out. He did the honorable thing and came over to my parents house for dinner, and asked for their blessing. My parents were thrilled.
By the way – my fiance – his “license to plan surprises” is revoked. Permanently until further notice.
