I’m sorry 🙁 Did he say WHAT levels and give you numbers? Maybe your hcg is good, but your progesterone is low and he wants you to supplement? Sending prayers your way.

How many times did you have your blood tested? I would call back and get the actual numbers. And go home. There is no way you’re going to be productive at work with this on your mind anyway.

I’m sorry. From what I know (and I’m no doctor) hcg is meant to double every 48 to 72 hours.

Honestly, I would say to my boss “I am having a health issue and need to leave.” I don’t know any boss who would touch that comment with a ten foot pole, they could get themselves into trouble.

IIRC, the level of increase is more important than level, at least this early when, if you’re a couple days off on when conception/implantation occurred, levels can be very different. Is there any way you aren’t quite as far along as you think you are?

acfulhorst:  I would call and insist on having them test again – one data-point doesn’t really tell them a whole lot.  The bigger issue is the rate at which your hormones are increasing.  For all they know, you just ovulated a little later!  Plus, there is a huge range of readings that fall within “normal.”  Seriously, call and see if they can get you in today for a second draw, and get the actual numbers.  There may be cause for concern, but they might also be freaking you out for no reason!

acfulhorst:  ok, but that still doesn’t tell you exactly when implantation does, and this early, days past implantation is what’s really important. You may be exactly 2 weeks late, so they assume 6 weeks along, but there are so many factors to timing of the actual implantation. If you know your exact numbers and how far apart they were taken, that will give you a better idea.

acfulhorst:  Well this happened to me, but I will say #1… if your getting u/s at 6 weeks there may not be a fetal pole yet….so dont freak out! My doctor said your levels need to be at a certain point before you see anything so if theres just a sac its normal. For me I tested 4.5 weeks and my levels were not more then 200…. that was considered super low for almost 5 weeks and the doctor scared the crap outta me. He told me because it can take 2-3 days to double he wanted a better view so said to wait a full week before testing again. When I booked my appt it was actually 8-9 days after the first draw and my levels popped up to 6000!! Everything was fine!…..currently 19w and the baby is flipping around in there like Im a jungle gym. 🙂  Depending on implanation etc… being off by a few days can make a huge diff in your levels…. so try not to stress and ill have FX for you!
