LearnerCat:  In my limited experience almost all wedding dresses have boning (at least the ones I tried on) I think your dress is lovely. If you want more going on, it’s the perfect dress to accessorize with a belt, a sash, big jewelry- you can do something big and not have to worry that it’s too much! What a plus! And what matters most is that YOU feel beautiful in the dress. Sorry your mom is being that way.

Your wedding, not your mom’s wedding. Thank her for her opinion and change the subject.

I don’t think it’s plain or boring at all – the detailing is beautiful! I think too that nearly all wedding dresses have boning of some sort.

I agree with PP about adding a sash, even just a simple classic sash like in the model picture.

I think its soft and romantic. You could always add sparkle to a dress. Almost all wedding gowns have boning. They need it because they are so heavy!

There’s nothing wrong with your dress. It’s beautiful.. If you like the dress then you should wear it for your wedding.. After all.. You are the bride.

LearnerCat:  No way! Your dress is so beautiful! I think with a sparkly bracelet and earrings it would look fantastic as well, or even a really thin sparkly sash. Your dress is most definitely not ugly though, I can’t believe your mum would say that.

LearnerCat:  Gosh, mothers can be so harsh. I think your gown is gorgeous, very romantic and perfect for a garden wedding. Not at all plain, it’s got such a vintage feel to it. It’s hard to tell what she means by the boning, maybe it’s because it hasn’t been altered to your size yet? If the boning is a problem, you could consider removing it and having the fabric more tailored to your shape?

I also love your bridesmaids dresses. I personally really dislike bright colours for bridal parties – I think soft, muted shades are so much prettier and more elegant.

LearnerCat:  We are just being honest, it is a beautiful dress and it looks really nice on your figure. Maybe your mum was expecting something completely different and your dress has just thrown her off? I really like your bridesmaids dress too, I would have loved that colour but one of my bridesmaids ended up being moved 10 hours away for work within 2 weeks of me getting engaged so we had to order something quickly!

I like the neckline as well, a friend of mine got married and her BMs had dresses in a soft pink very similar to the dress you chose and it looked so elegant in pictures, and I think they compliment your wedding dress well. My mum doesn’t particularly like my wedding dress either so I understand that feeling of being confused as to whether you will look good or not 🙁

It looks much like my wife’s dress, which I love.  Your mom doesn’t have to wear the thing.
