What about using either silk or real carnations instead?  They shouldn’t cost too much.  You might even find a bee who would sell you there silk ones in classified?  🙂

I think the color of them would be the determinant of “season” appropriateness…

I’ve seen some really pretty DIY things like this that I could definitely fit for a formal wedding…

How about fake flowers…. there are some really great how-to’s on the DIY tab on here for flower pomaders that you could still make for yourself (possibly cheaper than real flowers)

Do you have a pic of one possibly? I mean I’ve seen some pretty formal looking ones…. or how about paper flowers?

Those can look really pretty too..

I found alot of paper DIYs on MarthaStewartWeddings

I think with a dark brown satin ribbon they should be fine. I would see if you could find some “formal wedding” pics that have pomaders like this to show that it can definitely be pulled off! =)

I think you should make one as an example to see if she will get on board. Maybe she just has to see it first! It might be useful for you to give it a try anyway before you decide how you are going to make them as well, the instructions might need tweaking, and tissue paper isn’t very costly any way.

They look beautiful! They almost look floral, like big balls of white hydrangea.

If you like them then go for it! Mum’s are weird with opinions – every hair style I show my mum for my hair for the big day gets a very “meh” response. You’re never going to please your mum with everything so you may as well go with what you like. Also, sometimes it can be hard for people to put all of the elements into an over all “look” for your day, but I’m sure once it was all there on the day she’ll think they’re great! Nice job on making yours too by the way! I bought mine from etsy! I think yours look fab!

With the brown it looks very fall-y. I don’t think it looks spring-like at all. Very nice. Good quality looking ribbon

I am getting married in a Catholic church in late August and we are doing tissue pomanders as well. I think they are more formal than the traditional pew bows with flowers and the tissue ones are so inexpensive you can put them on every pew rather than just the first half (like I see a lot).

They turned out great! Personally, I would do it without the bows, but I am not a big fan of bows in general. I think bow-less makes it look more formal

How were those tissue pomanders made?  does anyone have the link?  I think they’re great, and less $ than even fake flowers
