So my mom called me yesterday and told me she bought her dress for the wedding. I was kind of disappointed she didn't go shopping with me to get it so I could help her pick it out... but we don't have the same style anyway... so that kind of worried me. Well... here it is..... my mom is not tall at all 5'1... she said it about hits at the knee.. I think it's pretty cute but wanted to get the bees opinions :)
I have never heard that moms are "supposed" to do any of those things. It's a really nice dress and very MOB appropriate, I think.
I think this is great! In all honesty, I always see the MOB wearing a short(er) dress..at or just below the knee. I've never seen a MOB wearing a long dress. I wouldn't worry about the color...as long as it's not black, I think it should be fine!
I think it's adorable! I never heard that they have to wear something opposite of the bridesmaids.
Depends on the formality of the wedding. About half the MOB dresses offered from major brands are knee length, so it's not unusual at all. My mom wore a floor length dress but my MIL wore a knee length dress similar to the one you posted. She would only be expected a to wear a long dress if you're having a formal black tie wedding.
I actually LOVE this dress and think it's perfect for an MOB! I'd love to hear where your mom got it--I might suggest it to my own mom. The last dress she suggested for herself was white. Needless to say, it was quite awkward having to explain to my mom that only the bride is supposed to wear white.
I love it! I've seen this dress on someone's mom on the bee...but I don't remember who. It actually hits low enough.
i think its gorgeous. i wouldnt say anything about it! its beautiful and very appropriate.
My MIL wore something similar. She is also about 5'1 and it looked great.
Another question.... she doens't have to coordinate with FMIL's dress right? So FMIL in law can wear black (probably dress pants and a nice shirt) like she was planning?
I am a recent MOB and I wore a long dress only because I am very self conscious about my legs. But.. I love the dress your mom picked out! It's beautiful!
I want to see my mom in something similar. Its lovely. You should give your mom credit for having good taste!
I love that dress! Where is it from? I want to suggest it to my mom! I think it is very MOB appropriate :)
I think it is lovely and I would definitly go with a wrist corsage.
I LOVE IT and would be happy if my mom would choose the same (she doesn't have a dress yet) :) good choice!
@napabridekelsey: LOL, my mom is wearing a floor length black gown. I just thought it was funny since the first reply I read was yours! We are having a black tie, night time wedding and my dad is wearing a black tux so my mom chose black so that when they are walking me down the aisle (they both are), it'll be black on either side of me and I'll have on my ivory dress. :)
I had my mom try on a dress really similar to that except the top was blue and the bottom was black. It's really flattering and very cute.
Love it, I want to get my mom into something similar to that. Where is it from?
I love it! My mom's been super choosey about her attire, so I'm jealous you have choices!
@cherrycoke Thanks for passing on the store info! I actually found it online and decided to send it to my mom since she's gathering ideas. She emailed me back to let me know she was going to order it! She absolutely loves it!
So pretty and MOB appropriate :)
I agree with PPs about the wrist corsage, it will complement and not compete with the rosette on the dress.
Also, my mom and FMIL have shared with me what they will each wear, and they both chose dresses that I was surprised and happy with! So if you want to 'approve', the moms don't need to match/coordinate at all.
That is really pretty! I'll definitely keep it in mind if the FMIL asks for suggestions. Thank you for sharing!
Great dress! Hell, I'd wear that to a wedding myself just as a guest!
I've never heard of Von Maur before but I've now spent 30 minutes browsing through their site. They've got some cute stuff!!!
@cherrycoke: I love it! and to your other question, no, FMIL and your mom don't have to coordinate outfits. I've never seen that before.
