Im in need of ideas.
I little back story…my Mother passed away in May 2008 from complications of diabetes. She was 54, she died before my 30th birthday. I have had a baby girl and gotten engaged since her passing. I recently acquired the wedding dress that she wore when she married my father in 1976. It is very 70’s, a poly blend, long-sleeved, collared dress. It was neatly folded in a 15x8x3 cardboard box wrapped in tissue paper with her veil and head piece inside as well. It is in GREAT condition! A few armpit stains but no moth holes, etc. I was very happy!
Now that I have it, I’m not sure what I want to do with it. This is where you come in.
Here are some ideas I have:
- use material to wrap mine & my sisters bouquets in
- have a piece sewn into the inside of my dress
- have it altered to wear for some of my bridals after the wedding

My mom offered me her dress, but it doesn’t fit me, and I really don’t like the style. Instead, I’m going to wear her veil, and then I’m going to cut up pieces of the lace to make my shoes (these are my inspiration). I might also add some to my bouquet or something like that.

my mothers dress was lace, i’m going to use the lace in my veil.

I like the idea of you sewing some of the dress inside. That way you’re *sort of* wearing the dress, while having her near you, but you get to wear the dress that you want.

I also like the idea of sewing some of the dress inside to yours, for the same reasons napabridekelsey mentioned. That way you can just remove some of the fabric and keep the original dress. If you were to wrap the flowers in material from the dress, you would have to remove larger sections of the fabric. This way you get the best of both worlds. What a sweet way to honor your mom.
