I didn't keep my old name at all -- First Middle NewLast. I feel kind of weird. I was so excited to change it over for so many reasons, but then when I actually took on his last name, I feel a little lost or something. I am sure I'll adjust soon enough, but it's just a strange feeling to have a name that you don't recognize!
@Witz: Yes it is...especially to have had it since birth. I just think of it as a gift from him.....that's actually what he said to me. I thought it was sweet. I've signed with my new name once and it felt like I wa shaving an out of body experience. LOL
I got mine late last week and like Witz dropped my madien name completely. It was so exciting to see it actually official. DH seemed really excited too. As he handed me the envelope, he was like "look what it says on the front! First Middle HisLast!" So cute! :)
@Mrs.KMM: LOL....yeah Hubby was so excited too. He was like, "It's officially official!"
@luli29: Wohoo...how did it feel going into the office?
I gues I jumped the gun, lol I took Hubby with me the Monday after our Saturday wedding, lol
haha...I felt sad. In the post I wrote about this, I told everyone that my old SS card got ripped up in my face. lol. I was like..uhhhh.
I was excited to have the same last night but a little sad to lose mine. I still have no clue how to introduce myself LOL
@luli29: I just read that. I commented too :)
@roxy821: LOL...you don't say Mrs. NewLastName? I still don't respond all the time when people call me my new name
Congrats! I got mine a while back and today I had my appointment to get my new driver's license. I was super excited to change my name. It was something that I always knew that I wanted to do when I got married - I guess I'm just a traditional girl! But, it definitely takes time to get used to and I'm not yet used to it.
@1littlep: I haven't gone to getthe driver's license changed yet. I am not looking forward to the long lines.
I just got back to work after going to the SS office today, they said I should have my new card in 1-2 weeks... tomorrow is driver's license and passport photo... better make sure my hair and makeup look halfway decent, those things are good for 10 years!~
Congrats!! I totally dropped my original maiden name too and 4 months later...still weird!
I hit the DMV this morning! Got my new license and car registration with new name, The license pic wasn't horrible, she took 3 and let me choose! I'm thinking I'll do passport photos on lunch!
Omg this post made me cry and hyperventilate. I don't know if I am ready to lose my last name, but I am uber traditional about that so I definitely will lose it but the thought of my old social security card that I looked at as a child and thought was so cool being destroyed literally has me in tears.
I didn't have to turn in my old SS card, and plan to give it to my mom for her scrapbooking!
@crebre80: Don't bring your old social security card with you when you apply, and don't mail it in, and they won't destroy it. I've had two legal name changes (one was my wedding), and I still have the social security card that my parents got when I was born with my birthname, and the one I got post-college when I legally changed my last name, and now my new one with my married name.
The card isn't required when you apply, and don't leave it to chance that an over zealous office worker might destroy it.
That makes me feel soooooo much better. I will keep it for nostalgia sake.
Girl you know I cry over everything now a days.... Just wait until I hear canon in d.
I got my new social security card in the mail too! It seriously took about a week. I am still waiting for my drivers license to show up. My old one is expired so I have to keep my passport as a photo ID until I get my new drivers license. I seriously need to get my new passport too and this while waiting for the drivers license thing is really putting my passport changing into dangerous waters... (I already have an international ticket bought under my married name)
congrats! it did seem a little surreal to get that SS card in the mail with my new last name. i've changed it at work too, and had to sign a UPS slip the other day with my new last name. i have no idea how to sign my new name, haha. it totally threw me off.
@crebre80: LOL...I was the same way. You'll probably make me cry!
@Ms. Caniche: Oh no! I hope it hurries for you. I am dreading going to the DMV. I don't want to have to wait for a very long time.
@meggyo: LOL....it does look strange in signatures now, lol

It feels kind of strange, lol I just kept starring at the card and my new name in print. I kept my Maiden name as my second middle name. Of course Hubby was ecstatic lol
How did you feel when you got yours?
