i know how helpful these reviews can be when searching for info. In fact, if people want to add their own reviews of Adoramapix here, it would probably be more helpful/convenient to have a bunch of reviews in one thread.
I ordered 2 parent albums and the first thing i will say is that i am happy with how fast they came! I placed the order on November 7th, i was sent an email notification on November 8th that my order was shipped and they were delivered to my door on November 14th!
Overall i am very happy with them. I know our parents will love them and they are definitely the highest quality photo book i have for to date . I feel like we got our money’s worth.
However, that being said, i have decided I won’t go with Adoramapix for my own wedding album. I think i was hoping to be blown away by how awesome the albums were and I can’t say i was blown away – I was just satisfied.
There were some little issues, like at first glance i thought the color was not right (i used the auto color correct option). Although at second and third glance, i think i am being too picky. My husband thinks they are great and nothing is off with the color. I initially found them at tad darker than i was expecting. However, they are not so dark that its worth calling up Adoramapix and having them reprint them. The pictures are great – just not an exact match to what i was used to seeing on my computer. BUT, i have heard that our computer’s monitors are cranked up to the max brightness and so it is inevitable that the pics in print won’t be as bright. And without the comparison to my laptop screen, you would never look at my pictures and think they are too dark in the album.
The other color issue I had was with some of the non-professional pictures I included in the album. I included pictures from our BBQ at home reception. For the pictures we took inside, I find our skin looks a little red. But again, this is not worth complaining about or re-printing because i acknowledge these pics are non-professional. We took themselves with our camera and clearly none of us know anything about what settings to use for different lighting conditions. But i do find our skin is more reddish looking in the album that what I was seeing on my screen. here is a picture i took of the album so you have an idea:
and here is the picture uploaded straight from my computer:
Well, looking at them in this thread, its harder to tell the difference i think unless you are looking for it, but definitely in person, the pic in my album makes me look slightly sun burned!
As for the quality of the paper, i think its great. The pages are exactly what i was expecting. I chose the luster option, so not too shiny. Although, i do have to be careful with fingerprints as they will show. The thickness of the pages are good – thicker than my shutterfly album for example, but not as thick as you would expect from a flush mount.
here is an example of their thickness. they seem pretty sturdy to me:
The pages are lay flat which i really like a lot!! Here is a good view of how they flat:
Another thing i really like, which i don’t think every company offers from what i remember in my research is that there is no gutter in the center of each spread. Adoramapix uses one large paper per spread and it is simply folded in half. So when you have an image spread across 2 pages, the center is not in any way cut. Here is a good example of how it looks and why i like that there is no gutter in the center:
Last, there was an issue with two specific pages in one of the albums. But this was not due to the quality of the book or printing. When i was creating the album, i used a preset template that had various backgrounds and places to write text. Well, i didn’t put any text, so i went about deleting the thin striped lines that were markers of where to write text. But it seems i missed it in two spots. I wondered how this could have been so i looked on my adoramapix account online at the albums I created, and i don’t see the striped lines! So then i thought it was a printing error. Well, i just checked again online, and discovered that the striped lines ARE there, but under the picture i inserted. So I don’t see them on my screen, but they showed up in printing!!! very weird. again, i am not going to bother asking for a reprint because they are the bottom of the page and its not the end of the world. Well, it was the end of the world for my perfectionist self and if it was my album and not our parents, i might have asked for a reprint. But i know our parents are going to love them and may not even notice this at first glance. So this is just a warning to be careful with the editing software – things can show up in printing that don’t show on your screen! It could have been prevented if i was even more meticulous and actually looked “under” each picture – which of course i have now learned to do for future creations. Here is one of the stripes i am referring to:
To conclude, after receiving and examing these albums, i have officially decided not to order my wedding album from them – only because i want something just a little higher quality and i think it is worth the wait until i can afford it. BUT, i would happily order parents albums again and I DO plan to make an album of my at home reception (BBQ and formal pictures that we took) through adoramapix – because like i said, it IS a good quality album and it did meet my expectations. I was hoping it would exceed my expectations and then i would have decided to order my own wedding album from them. But it didn’t and that’s fine by me!
ETA: I forgot to mention the size. I ordered 10X10 albums and thought they were great. I was a bit worried when designing the album that some pictures would come out too small looking, but 10×10 was bigger than I imagined. I willl also get this size for our at home reception album. For our wedding album, i think we will go with 12×12 just to make it standout more and more special. But for anything else, including parent albums, i think 10×10 is perfect! I got an 8×8 from Shutterfly for our honeymoon pictures and it was great size for that purpose, but i would have thought 8×8 was too small for a parent album. So i am very happy with my size selection.
