…but is about to get a bit better.
So I am an IT, and I have a small office. I am the only IT person on staff (its a small clinic), except for the IT Administrator at the neighboring hospital. I have always worked on teams. He hasn’t, so you can image our struggle trying to communicate. He is also a royal douche who has to be involved in everything and have a say in everything. We’ve been struggling to not choke each other since last December.
I’ve told him several times I need storage space. I got some in my office, but then he orders stuff for fixes at my clinic (that he never gets to) and expect me to store things. Bees, I don’t have your normal office. I have a small, ultility room office. Granted, I have my own office, but as an IT, I need SPACE!!
This is my office, minus the ladder and bucket of tools (the maintenence guy is chipping cement out of the pipes in an effort to fix my pipe problems, which in turn is making my workday difficult and my office messy, but oh well). I am backed up all the way to the wall to take this. I have a storage shelf that goes along the left wall that you can’t see–
I had two office floodings back in June and one just this week (really tiny one where I didn’t have to move my stuff). Imagine trying to get all your stuff out of your office as water is coming in–all important electrical stuff. I was so stressed and pissed off. I started storing things down at one of our other offices, and the IT Admin told me I wasn’t allowed to use that as a “dumping ground” for all the stuff I don’t want.
So, being between a rock and hard place and dealing with this since the day I started, yesterday was my breaking point. I started throwing stuff. Stuff that I couldn’t find a use for within the last year–it all went in the trash.
I told the IT Admin, with the blessing of my supervisor, that I am throwing shit away. At the end of the day if he would like to come look through it and keep it, he can, but it will not be restored in my office. I can’t do it.
We have a fire marshal coming Wednesday, and my office is honestly a fire hazard. With me being pregnant, there is no way I’d be able to move al lthat crap in an orderly, organzied fashion if something happened. Much less get out in a hurry if there were a fire.
So, Bees, I am woman! Hear me roar! I am clearing out the crap today 🙂
