Think about if you've had any stress recently. Stress can cause your ovulation to get put on hold - its sort of an evolutionary thing to keep you from becoming pregnant if your village is being attacked by raiders or you know it was a bad harvest and you're not going to have enough food for the winter, etc etc.
If you've been stressed at any part of your most recent ovulation cycle (so since the beginning of your last period), your body can literally just stop what its doing and delay ovulation for weeks. I had a period right before Christmas, but before that I didn't have a period since the beginning of November (nor did I have any fertility signs - mucus, lubrication, etc). I was, admittedly, getting pretty freaked out towards the end of it, but it turns out I was probably just stressed by school and some other issues I was dealing with at the time, because everything eventually just went back to normal like nothing weird had happened and now I'm having regular cycles again.
There's LOTS of possible explanations for this. Such as:
* Annovulatory cycle (you didn't ovulate)
* Late Ovulation (therefore delaying AF)
* Cysts
* Stress/thinking you are pregnant causes a delay
* Pregnancy (unlikely since you've gotten BFNs)
I would put a call into your doc. They will most likely either tell you to wait it out another week, or have you come in, take their pregnancy test, and (if negative) put you on Provera/progesterone to induce your period.
Good luck!
@lisaelanna: and @MrsMaine: Thanks ladies! I thought for sure that I felt myself ovulate. I have been pretty stressed at work though. I have an appt in Feb, for my Gyno. I guess I will ride it out unless I get too freaked out.
I'd ask if you could push the appointment up a little. If you are pregnant, you should start your prenatal as soon as possible, and if you're not and it's a cyst or something, it needs to be monitored.
@pinkfrog: I have alrady started prenatals...my Gyno told me to when I stopped taking the pill. Ok, the cyst thing scares me.
i once went an entire summer w/o a period. a couple months ago 21 days late and recently i was 14 days late. the summer was because my body was going through physical changes--i gained 10lbs and was drinking a lot (it was a party phase right after college). the recent changes are due to stress.
@MrsTCB: WOW! I have been late before, but never this late. I am at 30 days now.

And I have no idea why!! I have gotten two BFN's (the most recent was last night) so I guess I am not pregnant. I have never been this late before. I am not on the pill anymore...I got off last year. HUbby and I don't mind beign pregnant. We're ready whenever it happens. It just sucks being in limbo...the tests say we're not, but I haven't started yet. Should I be worried? Can anyone give any insight? I know that it's not medical advice, but someone might have a little more of a clue than I do.
