That sucks, I’m sorry you had such a crummy time with the hotel! I’ll keep that in mind when we are looking for honeymoon spots, we are pretty much decided on Jamiaca!

And, like you said – the important part is that you came home married!!

@Coral99:  I’m sorry that happened to you. That sucks.

I stayed in Negriil and it was great.

I love Jamaica and I’ve never heard anything like this before. We are going to Negril this year and I can’t wait! Even my cheap $800/week resorts in the Caribbean never looked through, let alone stole, my stuff.

I’m sorry it was so crappy. The Caribbean can be hit or miss but we’ve always been lucky (or just have low expectations, lol).

@Coral99:  Good advice, I wouldnt recommend Montego Bay or Ocho Rios for that matter… if you want to go somewhere romantic, nice, tropical and safe; probably your best bet is a higer end resort area in Mexico or elsewhere in the Carribbean (but not Jamaica).  I love Jamaica, but it’s extremely poor, law enforcement is a joke, and people will do anything to make a buck.

Negril has an awesome beach and is extremely laid back– doesnt have that touristy rush/craze feel to it.

@Coral99:  I would say, based on our experience on our honeymoon in Ocho Rios last November, it IS Jamaica. The country is beautiful, the people…leave a little to be desired.

We never encountered a friendly Jamaican, our telephone NEVER worked in our room, room service might come some days at 6 am, some days at 4 pm. The private resort beache weren’t clean, bees everywhere at the open air bars, the food was barely edible, I felt like I was getting swindled everywhere I went, there wasn’t a shred of hospitality to any of the employees–we were kinda like a necessary nuisance, my husband lost a T-shirt off our balcony and we never got it back, though they assured us housekeeping would bring it, we even found that if you paid for things off the resort in American dollars, they would charge more but if you paid in Jamiacan dollars, it would be at least 10% cheaper. Everywhere we went I felt like someone was trying to scam me; so I started my own scheming… it works!

I’m sorry you had such a crappy experience. We didn’t shell for the really expensive resorts and preferred stuff like you did; I would’ve expected more, too. It’s just a different place that doesn’t quite “get” Americans and what we expect. Once I realized that, I was ok–still annoyed about everything, but ok.

I won’t go back. If we want to the Caribbean, we’ll go to the Virgin Islands or Caymans. Not Jamiaca.

Negril is amazing!  We stay at Couples Negril.  I’ve always heard horrible things about secrets mb.

in all fairness though….you can’t really complain about the bees and flies lol.   That’s beyond anyone’s control.

obviously based on everyone’s personal experience – but I love and adore the people of jamaica(on and off resort).  I’ve never had a bad encounter, ive never met one that wasn’t friendly.   maybe some people can just relate to them better?
