Oh my goodness I’m so sorry!  Poor little guy.  Sounds like you’ve got a good plan.  If he seems okay, I wouldn’t worry too much.  Illness is an emergency, but injury can wait 2 days.

Maybe he just twisted it? BTW, Basil is a cute name for a dog

🙁 poor baby!

if it helps you any, my dog did this a few weeks ago, we still have no idea what happened.  we went to the dog park, lots of playing, came home, everything was fine, a few hours later, limping!  we had the same issue, it was the weekend, so no vet but the EM vet and we didn’t really think it was EM vet worthy.  we waited it out, the next day there was still limping but by monday he was perfectly fine!

i hope basil get better quickly!

If you don’t normally give your dog a “nice long walk” his body (or in this case, his foot) might be sore. I think we experience something similar when we do a hard workout after a long few weeks of taking it easy. I def. know that I am sore the next day!

When we go to the beach and use the Chuck-it for Carson, she runs probably 3x more than when we are at home. At the end of the first couple days she is sore and, sometimes, she limps. She is over it after those first couple days. This could have happened to your pet. Her paws might just hurt, like when our feet hurt!

Hopefully it just goes away. Get well soon, Basil!

Awww, poor Basil! We had a beagle-crisis ourselves this weekend but Rosy did have to go to the emergency vet… to the tune of $1000. Yeesh. There goes the tax refund! (but she was really really sick and is better now so it’s worth it!)

Poor thing!  Hopefully it is just a sore leg from the walk and nothing serious!

We had this happen with our older dog, an unexplained limp without swelling or a cut of any kind.  Turned out it was lymes disease.  If it doesn’t go away you might want to get it checked out.  They missed it the first time with our pup and the limp just went away but then it came  back a few months later a lot worse, and that’s when they did the lymes test.

Animals are so tricky!  We used to take them to the vet nonstop, and they would have NOTHING wrong with them, we’d get “kitty tylenol” and a bill for $300.  We’ve started to give them 24-48 hours for non life-threatening issues like this, and it has worked out pretty well.  It can be so hard to tell, and you feel so guilty, like you’re being a bad mom.  But you’re not…sometimes you just have to wait it out a bit to make sure there is something really wrong.
