Our engagement was a surprise for everyone. We live on the west coast and planned a trip back east to visit our families and this was a surprise for our families out there. We just showed up one day and surprised everyone. It was the best thing we had ever done and it was exciting because I hadn’t seen my family in over a year.
While we were there my FI went out ring shopping without anyone knowing. He had been ring shopping out in Vancouver, but well, its expensive just like everything else so he knew when we went home he would buy the ring there. It was no surprise to me when he suggested having a dinner with both our families present. We did all the time when we lived there and our families hang out together still even though we are not there. So I made phone calls and invited my cousin and aunt that I am really close to over, his aunt, his grandma, etc, etc…My FI called me on the day of and asked how many people were coming and I said about 20. He kinda freaked out but I just ignored it as nothing. He was so into this get together he even invited his mother to join us after dinner via skype (she lives in Vancouver with us). Again I didn’t think anything of it since his family was there and they could all chit chat.
After dinner my FI was trying to set up skype and having a bit of difficulty and getting frustrated. I thought that was odd because if we couldn’t do skype oh well, next time! Once it was set up he would let anyone leave to go outside for a smoke. But I still didn’t clue in. I was playing with my little cousins when my FI motioned me to come over to the computer I thought that was a bit weird since I had already said hi to his mom and it wasn’t like I never see her.
I walked over with him and he took my hand gave a little speech and got down on one knee. I was in a state of shock. I had no idea it was happening, and neither did anyone else. I said yes after the shock kinda disappeared. My FI planned the entire thing as a surprise for everyone. No one not even his bff or brother knew anything about it. I had always wanted the surprised but I was really happy that he decided to include my family in that special moment. Plus, we have pictures and videos of the day since everyone always has their iPhones at the ready!
