- Wedding: May 2012
I have been posting on the Waiting board for about two months. I got engaged on August 14th and I’m really excited to start planning our wedding!
My fiance and I have been together for nearly six years (our dating anniversary is on October 22nd). We had decided last year that we would be ready to get engaged by the end of Summer 2010 (he is working on a PhD in biochemistry, I am a teacher).
Well, summer was close to ending (with being a teacher, I consider summer to be over on the first day of school, though technically, it doesn’t end until September 20ish). I had gotten really bummed out when he didn’t propose in July (we are in a long distance relationship while he finishes up his PhD–we are 5 hours away, and it’s so hard to get a teaching job these days, it didn’t make sense for me to move). I wouldn’t be seeing him until after the school year started, and I had my heart set on starting school with a ring on my finger. I didn’t say anything to him, because I figured he still had some time.
Well, it’s the weekend before school starts, and my mom says that she is in need of a girl’s night out. That sounds great to me, I’m excited to spend some time with my mom. We made plans to go out that Saturday evening. She, my stepfather, and I were at a trendy bar in our hometown. We were waiting for my stepfather’s friend to meet up with him so my mom and I could go out. I see my mom smile and wave. I turn around and it’s my SO! My mouth dropped open. I was soooo surprised to see him! He ended up taking me out to dinner. We went to a great place in downtown St. Louis.
On the way to get dessert, he wanted to stop at the Muny (an outdoor theater that has been a special place for us). His grandma has an engraved brick there, and he wanted to go see it. We parked really close to the front and went in. I found the brick right away, and he got down on one knee and proposed! It was so sweet, so perfect–I wouldn’t change anything about it! The ring is perfect…definitely the one of my dreams :-). He drove in the night before and took my dad out for drinks. He asked for his blessing, and they had a good conversation.
I was so happy that he was able to surprise me! I thought I had it all figured out, but he managed to get one over me :-). I’m looking forward to posting more in the hive!
