So in honor of her, let's show pictures of our beloved pets, tell funny stories about our pets, etc.
This is my Bailey Boo. She always used to follow me around everywhere. Whenever I came home, she'd run up to me, I'd say "Give me a hug," and she'd jump up on her back two legs and wrap her front two legs around my waist to hug me. I miss her so much!
Oh, I'm so sorry! *HUGS* I had a boxer who used to do the same thing. He passed away last may after 14 wonderful years!
Thanks for your support. People on weddingbee seem to love their pets, so I knew that people could empathize. Bailey was old and sick so I know she's not in pain anymore, but it still hurts.
Oh no... I"m so, so, so sorry. I know how much that hurts! I found out that my cat (that I had gotten when I was 6) had died right before I took a logic final my junior of college... I bomed that final, to be sure.
I'm so sorry. Losing a pet is one of the worst feelings in the world, hands down. We just lost our 1 1/2 year old cat over Christmas really unexpectedly, and my heart still hurts.
I'm sorry this happened to you. We all know when we get a pet that it's going to happen one day or another, but it's still so hard to deal with...
I hope you feel better soon.
I am so sorry....I too have lost a dog a couple years ago....may she rest in peace
Oh I'm so sorry. Big big ((hugs)) for you! You must be hurting so much. I know you're relieved that he's not in pain anymore but it's so difficult to lose a family member.
One of my cats was diagnosed with a chest tumor about two weeks ago and they wanted me to bring him back to be put down the next week. I'm happy to say he's responding well to medication and still happy at home right now. I was an absolute mess for 3 days coming to terms with the fact that he was sick and wouldn't be curled up in my bed waking up with me the morning of my wedding. For now I take each day as a gift and I don't take one second for granted. Our pets are our children that's for sure. They are so special and grateful to be loved, and we are so lucky to have loved them.
You mentioned you wanted a funny pet story. I probably have a million! I think the funniest/cutest thing Smee does is steal my hot water bottle. I sleep on my side with a pillow that I throw my leg over, and in the winter I warm it up with a hot water bottle (so cozy on your belly when you sleep!). Well last winter Smee discovered the joy of hot water bottles and I would wake up pushed off my pillow, little Smee curled up in happy warm ball on top of what I now call his Princess Pillow. And of course being the sucker and good cat mom that I am, I just sigh, give him a pat, and fall back asleep.
Im so sorry :-( I lost my dog that I grew up with almost 3 years ago and I still miss him. Pets really become our family and its so hard when they are gone. I hope you have people that you can lean on in this time of sadness.
Oh I'm so sorry this happened... At least you will have the many wonderful memories and love with her! Hugs!!!
I'm so sorry for your loss! I know what it's like to lose a pet :( I was going to tell you my story, but realized you didn't ask for SAD stories LOL. So.... I'll just tell you about my kitty. She is a calico and her name is Katie. Katers-potaters, tater tats, or just taters for short :) She is so loving and gentle and she loooooooves to roll around on my shoes when I get home. And in the summer, she will put one paw in each of my flip flops and lay there! It is so cute ^._.^
I'm so sorry for you! I don't really have any funny pet stories for you but I hope you feel better!
I'm sorry. Losing a pet is so difficult! They're such a huge part of our families.
I'm so sorry about Bailey Boo. In honor of your request, I've posted a picture of Catherine below. She also goes by Chunk Style, Chubbalicious, Chubbawumpus, Fatty Boombalatty, and all sorts of random nicknames. In this picture, a friend of mine put a pretzel chip on her head, and she was too lazy to make any effort whatsoever to get the chip off her head. Her days are spent lounging on our couch, ideally asleep on someone's lap.
oh no! i'm so sorry! after moving in with my fi i finally got to have my first dog, and i've loved (almost, his seperation anxiety does get the best of him sometimes!) every second of it! he definitley has his own, crazy personality. i have a million funny stories (some embarrassing, such as when he took my bra out of my bag one of the first nights i was staying over at my fi's house and ran around the house with it, when he took my pad, luckily not used but still gross, and ran around the house with it when my sister was visiting...) but my latest story is that we finally got a wii. whenever we try to play, teddy thinks we're trying to play with HIM and he comes and pretty much stands on top of us and tries to play! poor thing, he just wants to play but he's going to get a remote thown in his face. i should have known, whenever i used to try doing yoga or zumba he'd do the same thing, i could never get any exercize done in the house because it turned into teddy play time!
I'm so sorry for your loss!
I know it's not the same by my boys (weiner dogs) just got neutered and it breaks my heart. I've cried twice now. My Hanky Panky (aka Fat Guy) wont even eat! Gus Bus (aka Camel) just looks at me with these sad eyes. I hate it. I just want them to be normal and excited to see me and I want to see Hanky smile at me like he does. This dog seriously smiles and wiggles his butt at the same time. It's ADORABLE.
I dont know how I'll handle it when either one of them pass. They are brothers and they HAVE to be with each other no matter where they go. It's simply amazing.
I'm so sorry. I don't have any pics to share, but I did want to pass along my condolences.
I'm so sorry. Our kitten has been really, really sick so I know how hard it is to lose a pet or have to face the reality that you might lose them soon. I know your doggy is in heaven with all the other doggies, having lots of fun frolicking in green grass!
I'm so sorry for your loss.....may you find comfort in the fact that she is no longer suffering. Losing a pet is like losing a family member.
@Jaybird - Hope this helps you through this tough time :( I am scared for the day to come that my little boys pass away. My 9 month old puppers isn't scared of cars and i saw him in front of someones tire the other day, so thankful that person saw him and stopped.
Puppy Paws
Fifteen years of puppy paws moved outside today.
Inside my heart is breaking,
the Light of my Life - *Missy, has gone away.
I held her head, kissed her blurry eyes, and said "I Love You, Girl"
With gentle hands and heavy heart, I released her soul to God,
crying for her spirit to be free.
Never dreamed it would hurt so much,
Guess I wasn't thinking much of Me.
But she must be missing something,
she left her paws upon my heart.
Kind reminders of the time we had together,
I never wanted her to be the first to part.
They tug as fiercely as the shoestrings she once played with;
the tug of wars together, the one's I let her win.
The "tennies", the toys, all the things she loved speak about her passing
and I fall apart again.
Those little puppy "grunts" and kisses seem so far away.
I cry: "What was I thinking?
I said it'd be OK."
I said; "I'll be alright without you, If you really have to go.
No need for you to fret or worry,
we had our chance to love each other so."
Our final road together remains yet to be seen.
Puppy paws can be so gentle,
the pain they leave in passing, so mean.
"I'll hold them safely in my heart", I tell Her;
"but I'll let them run at will.
When we cross the Bridge together,
I know they will be still."
RIP Bailey Boo! I am truly sorry for your loss =( My sister just lost her cat, Pretty Kitty, 2 months ago. About 1 1/2 months ago, we lost our family dog Taz, he was a rottweiler. He died instantly of a heart attack or stroke with no warning at all. It was so sudden and unexpected. Unfortunately I didn't get to say goodbye. A few weeks ago, we had to put down our other family dog Mercedes, she was also a rottweiler. She had a tumor growing on her left front shoulder. It was bone cancer and it was eating away her bone and causing her pain. The vet said at best she would have only six months, but that wasn't the case for her. She probably wouldn't last another week. But, at least I got to say goodbye. I remember helping to pick her out and picking her name. It is the saddest thing to have a kitten or a puppy, watch them grow up and become a big part of the family and then they are gone. I have never cried so much. But, we have our memories of them and they will always be in our hearts. They are in a better happier place now.
oh man that pic actually made me tear up... what a sweet puppy!! I'm so very very sorry for your loss. every time i've lost a pet its been so hard that i've sworn i'll never get another because it isn't worth the pain... but it fades over time and you remember the good more than the passing and you love again. hugs to you today. :(
Thank you, everyone, for the support. I am sorry for all of your losses as well! I also enjoyed the cute/funny stories that many of you had. That's what makes us all want to get pets again, even after losses and the hurting. I am fortunate to still have a dog and a few cats, whom I love dearly.
@ MsBrew: That poem is so sweet. Thank you.
@Sweetheartdealer: I know she's definitely romping in a field somewhere, probably swimming in some dirty dog pond in heaven, and I know she's probably with all of everyone else's lost pets, finally happy because she's no longer sick.
First of all, that picture of your baby with a dusting of snow on her is precious. I'm so sorry she's no longer with you physically. My baby boy, Bosco passed away April 2008 and truth be told...I still cry once in a while. While I now have two furbabies which we adopted 3 months after, there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of him, talk to him or look at his picture.
They just touch your heart so much that their paw print is forever imprinted. That will never go away.
A favorite quote of mine:
'He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.' ~unknown
The photo is Bosco who passed away. A truly amazing friend.
Here is my Panzer boy. He would have loved to be friends with your Bailey Boo. Since he was a shelter pup he wants to be friends with alllll dogs, whether they like it or not ;) Don't know what I'd do without him, so I feel your loss of Bailey. What a beautiful pup. She was lucky to have a wonderful owner that loved her so as so many animals are not so lucky.

"The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make
a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you,
but he will make a fool of himself too."
- Samuel Butler
I didn't have a puppy, but a bunny. He died a few years ago. He was the best. He liked to follow me around and if I stood still, he'd hop around me in circles. :) That's him eating snacks. LOL I know it's not the same, but I know how it is to lose a pet. I'm so sorry.
@jaybird--
I'm so sorry about your baby. You have to remember that you gave her the best life possible-- she loved you just as much as you loved her and the kindest thing and the responsible thing to do as a pet owner is be able to make a kind choice for htem when they are sick and hurting. Its such a hard choice, but sometimes it's necessary.
I had to put my sweet persian kitty to sleep 2 years ago and I still miss him. I cried for days-- felt like I had lost a family member. This poem, called The Rainbow Bridge, was on a card that my vet sent me a few days later. It brought me a lot of comfort-- and still makes me tear up today! I hope you find comfort in this time--
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
I'm so sorry! Losing a pet is horrible...I still get teary eyed thinking about my cat that died a few years ago. :-(
I'm so so sorry for your loss. :( It is good to remember her again!
I can't wait to get a pup of our own!!!
I don't have a pet right now but my brother does have an adorable Great Dane :) Here she is, our maggie, opening a Christmas present I got her.
Hugs to you and I'm so sorry for the loss of Bailey Boo. What a precious furbaby.
I know that when I lose my eldest dog, I will honor him by going to adopt a rescue. I have a full blooded rescue dog (my wacky Wyatt) who is a havanese and a cutie pie. He's full of well...life! And always fun.
Giving to a furry friend who needs you more than you need them is a blessing. Or maybe if your heart isn't ready to adopt there is some way of donating to a rescue society in Haiti for pets? i have heard of bestfriends.org giving aid to them.
I'm so sorry!! This post and all the fantastic responses totally made me tear up. We had to put down my first dog almost a year ago, and it was just awful. She was not feeling well at all though so we know it was for the best.. and for the last 2 months she was eating steak and chicken and "real people" food (wouldn't eat anything else), so she was pretty happy :)
Us having fun :)
One of her favorite pastimes was asking to go out, walking around for 4 minutes, then coming back and asking to come in.. only to pretend like she hadn't done so and ignoring us.
Aww... i am so sorry. I love your story of her jumping on you when you would come home
she sounds like she was the most loved dog!!
In honor of Bailey Boo I have pictures of my Coco. A funny story: The first night i had her she cried in her little bed so i put her in bed between me and my husband and in the middle of the night i woke up and couldnt find her so i looked and looked and she was inbetween our two pillows and the only thing i could see was her little white tail sticking out. i left her there and ever since then she has been fine sleeping in her own bed.

I am so sorry for your loss! Here are my two girls Ellie in the first two and Bridget
