Almost a month ago i picked my dog up from the kennel and noticed a spot under his eye. It has since grown and is red and irritated looking and the hair in the area is gone. He hasn’t been itching it though.
The suspicion is that he put his snout through the fence of the kennel and caused some irritation to the skin that hasn’t gotten any better. I put polysporen on it last night, and he eyelid swole up!! Poor guy, i cleaned the area and put a cold compress on it and his eye is fine now.
I’m wondering what i should be using to treat the area for the infection/irritation? He doesn’t seem bothered and its only located in one area so i’m sure its just an irritaion.

My dog got a rash that started as a couple spots and spread across her belly. It turned out to be staph, and it cleared up by bathing her everyday with a prescription shampoo and an oral antibiotic from the vet. Aside from the rash, she was also drinking (and peeing) more than usual, which the vet said was another sympton of staph.
I have no idea if this is what your dog may have, but a rash can be a sign of something more serious. Of course, it could also be nothing, but I would go to a vet to be safe.
My vet also said it’s bad to put a bunch of creams or antiseptics (we were using hydrogen peroxide for her infected spay scar) on your dog’s skin and advised we use a wet washcloth to clean any infected areas.

If it doesn’t resolve within the next few days, go to the vet. It could be skin mites (common, and usually noted in younger dogs). Hairloss around the eyes is common.Keep an eye out for any other patches of hairloss elsewhere on the body too.
Do not apply any ointments or meds to that area if they are not meant to be applied to the eye, to avoid causing eye damage.

It sounds like it could be ringworm. Don’t touch the spot and take your dog to the vet if it doesn’t start getting better in a a day or two.
